I must say that most remakes I am willing to give a sporting chance and excited to see what new effects can bring to the films, even though they’ll usually never come close to touching the originals. Well, I may have hit my limit as a remake of Poltergeist has been almost guaranteed to happen.
The original came out in 1982 written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper. It told the story of a family that moves into a nice big home until some fun loving spirits begin making things happen. Objects float around the room. The children’s hair raises up. Simple amusing poltergeists. Something happens though to turn their attitude around and they’ll do anything to terrorize the family, including kidnapping their youngest child.
Word is that none of those involved with the original film will be in the making of this one.
Look for this film to be out in late 2007 or sometime 2008. Completely tentative of course since it’s not even written yet.
