The issue starts on the Monitors’ satellite with the Monitors monitoring Kyle, Donna, Nightwing and Supergirl. Apparently they’ve yet to decide if Kyle’s worth keeping alive. We are then treated to an explaination as to why Kyle is where he is.

Where he is is on the alien world that Nero (who was impersonating Kyle at the time) interrupted some cultural event of significance. Basically Kyle has to win some gladiator thing without using his powers or some bad aliens will kill the pretty redhead’s people. Yawn.

A lot of boring pointless story later, Kyle wins and gets the girl. But he doesn’t “get” the girl because he’s a gentleman. Guy enters the picture and tells Kyle that someone close to him is in danger. Meanwhile the Guardians interrogate Nero and a couple of kids play with the Green Lantern from the Tangent Universe.

I really didn’t like this issue. It seemed much too much like a “one off” which would be cool, if this wasn’t a limited series. Perhaps this issue will play a huge role in the following final four issues, I don’t know. But I do know that it felt rather inconsequential. Basically, the subplots seem to have more future and more importance than the main story.

The fill in art team does a solid job, but the difference between the styles is rather jarring. It’s a solid looking book, but the book’s regular art team is missed.
