The Show

Reba is back for a fourth season and, actually her self-titled show is now in its sixth, and I really have a hard time understanding why. I’ll be honest that I have seen worse sitcoms, but there just isn’t much to like about this show at all.

In this DVD set, there are two common themes that run through out each episode: Barbra Jean and Brock’s rocky relationship due to Reba’s interference and Cheyenne and Van’s problems and resolutions. Let me ask though, aren’t those the exact same storylines that have been ongoing since this series’ inception?

Each and every episode has a slightly different focus, but it comes back to one of those two common situations, or even sometimes both of them. Barbra Jean is constantly jealous of Reba, who somehow always manages to come out on top of things. Brock just keeps shifting back and forth between Reba and Barbra Jean like a friggin gigolo. Kyra is in the middle of her growing up stage, as is Jake. Then there’s Cheyenne, Van, and Elizabeth – the happy little family that has its problems and then solves them.

I know it’s a sitcom, but there is virtually no variety whatsoever in these episodes and it gets boring quickly. Not to mention that the jokes are so incredibly lame and corny that you won’t be able to force a laugh they’re so stupid. I guess there are enough fans out there to keep the show going for five-and-a-half seasons (so far), but as you can tell, I’m not one of them.

Episodes

Disc One:

The Accidental Role Model: Brock and Barbra Jean’s marriage is on shaky ground and Reba is in the middle of all of it.

Mothe’s Intuition: Kyra is caught between her two friends Reba and Barbra Jean, as both are fighting for time with her.

The Two-Girl Theory: Barbra Jean and Reba go out together for a night on the town which ends up being a lot more fun then either expected.

Van’s Agent: Van offends his new possible agent, who is a lesbian, and then he tries to set her up with Reba to make things better.

Surprise: Reba and Cheyenne plan a surprise party for Van after he receives an Arena Football contract, but he has some unexpected news for them.

Couple’s Therapy: Van’s career has him loving life in Denver much to the dismay of Cheyenne. Meanwhile, Brock and Barbra Jean’s marital counselor blames all their problems on Reba.

All Fore One: Reba is forcing Brock to make a decision between dentistry and golf. Van is missing his daughter while he’s on the road.

Disc Two:

Hello, I Must Be Going: Kyra wants to move home because she gets an uneasy feeling of dislike from Brock. Van and Cheyenne continue to grow further apart.

Thanksgiving: Reba and Brock fight over who will host Thanksgiving.

No Boys Upstairs: Cheyenne decorates Van’s apartment when she goes to visit; while at home Reba allows Kyra to have boys in her room which is something Barbra Jean is against.

Diamond Jim Brady: Van’s dreams are crushed when he learns of a medical condition that ends his football career. His spirits rise though when he receives a huge settlement and then proceeds to blow the whole wad. Yes, all this in one episode.

Reba And The Nanny: Cheyenne is going a bit nuts getting herself so stressed out and worn down, so Van hires a nanny. Barbra Jean takes a big step and asks Brock to move back in with her.

Date Of Mirth: Barbra Jean’s new marriage counselor is so attractive that he has both her and Reba interested in him.

Reba The Realtor: Reba ends up getting fired from her job and somehow moves right into a real estate profession. And oddly enough, Brock is her first client.

Flowers For Van: Reba and Brock unknowingly flirt while online together and Elizabet’s play date gets a little too real for Cheyenne.

Disc Three:

Who Killed Brock?: Barbra Jean’s psychic advises her that a member of her family is the culprit who killed her dog, Brock.

The Pageant Of Grandmas: Barbra Jean and Reba compete in a beauty pageant for grandmothers.

Reba’s Rules Of Real Estate: Dolly Parton guest stars as Reba tries to land a job with the city’s best real estate firm but gets a surprise when the top agent shows up to interview her.

Driving Miss Kyra: Cheyenne tries to make life exciting again while Kyra passes her driving test and gets a hidden tracking device in a cell phone from Reba.

Go Far: Jake and Brock both have their own reasons for getting involved with Jake playing football.

Help Wanted: Reba gets more then she bargained for after hiring Van to be her assistant and he’s better at her job then she is.

Hello, My Name Is Cheyenne: Van takes the rap for a bottle of alcohol found that actually belonged to Cheyenne.

The Video

The show is shown in 1.33:1 Full Frame just like most sitcoms. The colors are crisp and it’s a clean transfer, so looks just fine.

The Audio

Heard in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround, Reba and the rest are heard clearly and loudly. Although I could do without hearing Barbara Jean very clearly.

Special Features

Nada.

The Inside Pulse

A bland show put together into a DVD set jam-packed full of nothing. And that includes bonus material and enjoyment. For the fans of the show, I’m sure you’ll want to add this to your collection, but you’ll be getting a show lacking in the extras department. If you’re looking for an enjoyable way to spend a weekend watching TV at home, then Reba is not the way to go.
