Seven Deadly Days of The Real World: Denver – Envy Tuesday

Features, Shows

Envy is closely related to pride. Those you commit the sin of envy have a insatiable desire to want what other people have. This mostly applies to beauty and love as far as envy goes. So as you can see, people with tremendous pride in themselves are often envied by others. Envy is probably most known as “jealousy”. This jealousy of others can sometimes lead to “malice”, which occurs when a person envies another person and then tries to hurt that person.

On The Real World, envy is quite common. Envy is usually the cause of many “love triangles” insides the house. A girl likes a guy in the house. The guy returns the love. They get together. But then it turns out that another girl likes the same guy and becomes jealous of the girl with him. It can work the other way as well. A guy gets with a beautiful girl that all the other guys in the house want to be and they becomes jealous of the guy she’s with. However, you’ll find that girls get jealous easier than guys. At least, guys won’t make it seem like they are jealous.

There can be envy of others outside of the house as well. It doesn’t always have to involve romance between roommates, although that’s most common. The Real World is famous for going to clubs and things like that. So there have been times when a girl from the house hooks up with a really hot “outside” guy that the other girls get jealous of. Guys usually pat their friend on the back for the same behavior, though.

All envy is not related to just love. Envy can also apply to success. However, since all of the roommates get to have the same job on the show it’s a little harder for there to be jealousy there. It can and has happened, though. One roommate will take control and be better at their job than the others. That roommate gets more recognition from their boss and that can cause envy among the other roommates. Obviously, on this show success takes a backseat to love when it comes to envy.

The Denver cast has already shown that envy is everywhere in this house. From the very start, a “triangle” was formed between Jenn, Colie, and Alex. Colie immediately was attracted to Alex. They formed a “bond”. Jenn didn’t really seem to be jealous of Colie, but she did admit that Alex was extremely attractive. You could see the trouble coming.

After some late-night drinking, Jenn and Alex do end up “hooking up”. Colie finds this out and she doesn’t like it at all. She wasn’t really jealous of Jenn. She was more upset with her. But what she does after that leads to more jealousy. Colie goes out and brings a random guy guy to the house to make Alex jealous. It actually works as he doesn’t like seeing her with another guy. Alex’s jealousy wasn’t that obvious and it wasn’t for that random guy either. He was just jealous of the fact that someone else was with Colie. That was the plan, of course.

Other than that, not much jealousy has been shown so far on the show. However, there seems to be the possibility that Brooke and Davis may be involved in some jealousy later. Brooke has admitted that she is attracted to Davis. Davis is gay, but as I mentioned yesterday he wants to be the center of attention. He wants other people to be jealous of him. So Brooke might be jealous, if she sees him being flocked by other guys and girls. We’ll have to see, though.

Whether Tyrie will admit it or not, he is probably jealous of Alex. Alex is getting all of the beautiful girls in the house. Girls that Tyrie has found attractive as well. He seems to be friends with Alex, but given the chance I’m sure he would “hook up” with Jenn or Colie if they jumped on top of him. Of course, he’s a guy. So instead of being stuck on being jealous of Alex, Tyrie goes out and finds other girls to hook up with. You see, jealousy among men usually doesn’t last near as long as among women.

The potential for envy in this house is enormous. There seem to be lots of overlapping relationships that could create more jealousy among the roommates as the season goes on. The real question is will friendships overcome envy? We have seen that some people can get past the envy and become life-long friends. Then, there are others that can’t get past it and it ruins their friendship forever. How will these roommates end up? The season is still young and we have a long ways to go. No doubt that envy will play an integral part in the future of this house.
