Make Movement: Fifteen Minutes and Thirty Seconds

Columns

The MVP of the show was without question the Rated R Superstar, Edge. No matter what you think of the crass Canadian, he was in three different matches in one night. Don’t get me wrong, last night was a good show, however, you are overextending your talent when they have to wrestle over and over again in a three-hour show.

I understand why it was Edge who won the battle royal match (because the main event plateau is so limited), to set up the real main event at New Year’s Resolution (DX versus Rated RKO). Not that I don’t feel Cena and Umaga is important, because it is, but they are pushing Kevin-Fed-Up-With-Your-Mug versus John Cena for the New Year RAW as if it were WrestleMania.

WWE, let me let you in on a little secret. Are you ready? Okay, here we go:
THIS IS OVERKILL. I know you are aiming for mainstream media exposure, and but you get almost guaranteed media coverage for your Tribute to the Troops show, why go the gutter way and get the guy trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame for another 30 seconds? Unless K-Fed gets buried, I could care less. Was the WWE trying for a sympathetic heel with K-Fed feeling misunderstood? It doesn’t matter, there is no amount of sympathy for a guy who clearly looked at Britney Spears as his meal ticket, and we saw how well that worked out for him. The crowd is going to poop all over this match because it won’t actually be a match, and it’s obvious that Umaga will interfere so he can have Cena to himself for the PPV. All I ask is that it is as painless as possible and to NOT invite K-Fed back for WrestleMania.

I felt the violent ending with Rated RKO bloodying up the DX was a good way to step up the level of intensity for their match. For a battle that has gotten so personal (you know when Rated RKO punked out Ric Flair), it’s a appropriate direction of their storyline. Now it’s DX’s turn and why not go ahead and make it a No Holds Barred match, since it will be anyway.

I’m really glad Victoria and Mickie James were placed in the third hour and unsurprisingly put on a good TV match. The WWE did the right thing by having Victoria get the clean victory because it has her on a winning streak going into the PPV, making the Women’s Championship look more desirable and actually has the WWE Women’s Champion as the underdog because she is smaller than Victoria. Victoria has a very rough, stiff style and though Mickie can hold her own, this gives her a chance to show her quickness (how did Jim Ross not call the Ricky Steamboat flying chest chop?) and technical skills.

Carlito’s match was short and Joey Mercury-ish bloody (but not to the extreme of course). I feel bad for Carlito because there seems to be a ceiling of limitation in regards to his career. He’s stuck once again in a program with Chris Masters, always has to be the lover for the divas, granted there could be way worst things to do than making out with Torrie Wilson, but he’s no where near where he should be in the road to the main event picture.

Speaking of potential, Kenny who is a talented young superstar, even though I don’t like the guy, must be getting ribbed in the back with a character name like Dykstra.

As usual, the Hardyz, Johnny Nitro and The World Greatest Tag Team put on a consistently good match. Sometimes I wonder if they are viewed as the stepchildren of the brand, because writers generally have zero respect for the tag team belts or the division it seems, yet, these guys bust their ass each and every week and the fans pay attention to these guys in particular. These guys are becoming a critical part of RAW and the enjoyment of the product in general.

Always remember, for things to change, you have to make movement. I hope everyone who celebrates the holidays (all of them) have a relaxing one with your loved ones. Remember the UPS, USPS, Fedex (and the like–insert Special Delivery Jones rib here) who are delivering all our packages and trying to get everything on time to all of us on the holidays. This is their most stressful time of year and I am grateful that so far this year all of the gifts I had sent all over the country actually got there on time. May you all get everything your heart desires. Thanks for reading and for all the feedback, feel free to contact me anytime at Bam@4sternstaging.com.
