Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut

Also known as the film that Oliver Stone won’t leave alone, Warner Home Video will release Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut on February 27th, 2007. Director Oliver Stone’s epic arrives in its third incarnation featuring more than forty-five minutes of never-before-seen footage restored into the tale of the Macedonian conqueror. The film, now clocking in at nearly four hours, will arrive with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. Aside from a free movie ticket to “300,” no extras seem to be included in this edition. Retail is $24.98. (You had me at free movie ticket to 300.)

Apartment Zero

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Apartment Zero on February 20th, 2007. The 1988 psychological thriller – starring Colin Firth and Hart Bochner – arrives with a brand new anamorphic transfer of the original 124-min. theatrical cut, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras to this edition include a new audio commentary track with director Martin Donovan, writer/producer David Koepp and filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (who is now, officially, the king of the commentaries). Retail is $19.98.

The Departed

Some early information from Warners has surfaced regarding the release of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed. Look for the crime drama to be released on February 13th in both regular single-disc and deluxe two-disc editions. So far, some of the confirmed bonus features for the deluxe release are: “Additional Scenes with introductions by Martin Scorsese”, “The Story Of The Boston Mob”: The Real-Life Gangster Behind Jack Nicholson’s Character and “Crossing Criminal Cultures”: How Little Italy’s Crime And Violence Influence Scorsese’s Work.

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning

Warner Home Video will release The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning on March 20th, 2007. The prequel – starring April Scott (Daisy), Jonathan Bennet, Randy Wayne (Bo & Luke) and Willie Nelson (Uncle Jesse) – inaugurates the studio’s new Warner Premiere line which will produce up to 15 original direct-to-video titles annually. Available in separate R-rated and unrated editions, the film arrives with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, behind-the-scenes featurettes and a music video. Retail is $27.99.

Flags of our Fathers

Paramount Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Home Entertainment have just announced Flags of our Fathers for release on February 6th, 2007. Director Clint Eastwood’s first part of his two Iwo Jima films will be available in separate 2.35:1 anamorphic and fullscreen editions. No details yet on extras. Retail will be $29.99.

Flicka

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Flicka on February 6th, 2007. This recent update of Mary O’Hara’s beloved novel “My Friend Flicka” stars Alison Lohman, Maria Bello and Tim McGraw. The flipper disc will include both anamorphic and fullscreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, trailers, Tim McGraw’s “My Little Girl” music video and more. Retail is $29.98.

The Full Monty

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release The Full Monty: Fully Exposed Edition on March 6th, 2007. The comedy favorite gets a long-due special edition with a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS tracks. Bonus features on the two-disc set include a commentary with director Peter Cattaneo and actor Mark Addy, ten deleted scenes with optional commentary, multiple featurettes (“Developing the Script,” “Finding the Director,” “Focus on Sheffield,” “Anatomy of a Score,” “Stocksbridge Brass Band Blues,” “Song & Dance,” “Editing,” “Translating English to English,” “The Success and its Aftermath,” “A Bigger Picture: A Look at the British Film Industry in the ’90s”) and a “Music Machine” feature. Retail is $19.98.

A Good Year

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release A Good Year on February 27th, 2007. Based on the novel by Peter Mayle, Russell Crowe makes his romantic comedy debut as London banker Max Skinner who moves to Provence to tend a vineyard he inherited from his late uncle (Albert Finney). There he discovers a part of himself that he had lost and experiences romance and a blossoming new love affair with a beautiful French woman that changes his life forever. The disc arrives in separate 2.35:1 anamorphic and fullscreen editions, each with Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, an audio commentary with director Ridley Scott, a making-of featurette and trailers. Retail is $29.98.

Marie Antoinette

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Marie Antoinette onto DVD on February 13th, 2007. Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola directs an electrifying yet intimate re-telling of the turbulent life of Marie Antoinette, the ill-fated child princess who married France’s young and indifferent King Louis XVI. The DVD arrives with a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, deleted scenes, “The Making of Marie Antoinette,” “Cribs with Louis XVI” (Jason Schwartzman gives viewers a tour of the Palace of Versailles) and trailers. Retail is $28.95. Also look for a Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with retail $38.96.

Masters of Horror

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Masters of Horror: Pelts on February 13th, 2007. Directed by horror legend Dario Argento and starring Meatloaf, the disc arrives with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 & 2.0 tracks, an audio commentary with writer Matt Venne, “Fleshing it Out: The Making of Pelts” and “All Sewn Up: Mastering the Effects Sequence” featurettes, original storyboards, still gallery and the screenplay via DVD-ROM. The Prestige

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has now officially announced The Prestige for release on February 20th, 2007. Director Christopher Nolan’s twisty thriller stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, David Bowie and Andy Serkis. The disc arrives with a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, “The Director’s Notebook: The Cinematic Sleight of Hand of Christopher Nolan” documentary, “The Art of The Prestige” gallery and trailers. Retail is $29.99. Also look for a Blu-ray Disc edition day-and-date.

The Science of Sleep

Warner Home Video will release The Science of Sleep on February 6th, 2007. Director Michel Gondry’s (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) film arrives in separate anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen editions, each with Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras have not yet been revealed. Retail is $27.95.

Spider-Man 2 Extended?

If you watch the cable channel FX you already know the network is premiering an extended cut of Spider-Man 2 on January 2, 2007. Besides a longer cut, the FX broadcast will also include all-new sneak peek footage at the upcoming sequel.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing Spider-Man 2: Extended Edition in late April, timed to coincide with the web-slinger’s latest big-screen adventure “Spider-Man 3.” No details about the disc are available at the moment.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

Boy that was quick. Didn’t this get released theatrically like two weeks ago? New Line Home Entertainment has unveiled what to expect on the DVD release of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Due February 27th, 2007, the comedy arrives with a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, 2.0 Surround and DTS-ES 6.1 tracks. Extras will include a commentary with Jack Black, Kyle Gass and director Liam Lynch, deleted and extended scenes with intros, making-of and “In the Studio” featurettes, a music video, a making-of the music video featurette, “jump to a song” jukebox feature and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

That Thing You Do!

This will be a double-dip, director’s cut release spread across two discs. Due on March 27th, the film will have a new anamorphic widescreen transfer, with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. Extras will include an audio commentary track, multiple featurettes, a music video, TV spots and trailers. Incidentally, it appears that the film has jumped in length from 105 to 155 min. Retail is $19.98.
