Abyss Storyline Reveal: Tried to Escape Prison, Why He Hates Barbed Wire & More Teases from Tomko

TNAWrestling.com has posted a very interesting kayfabe interview between TNA’s Bill Banks and Tomko, where they discuss “Abyss’ secret” — well, where they tease the big secret while revealing a few hints. Here’s an excerpt:

BANKS: Ok. Well, why was Abyss in prison? What did he do?

TOMKO: Like I said before – only three people know why and that’s me, Cage and Abyss. And you’re not going to be the fourth.

BANKS: Do you think James Mitchell knows?

TOMKO: Maybe — maybe not. But he’ll find out soon enough if Cage doesn’t get what he wants.

BANKS: I’ve noticed you and Abyss share similar looking tattoos. Any connection there?

TOMKO Next question.

BANKS: How did you get to know Abyss so well?

TOMKO: I was around him enough in the beginning — before he cracked. After that hardly anyone got near him. He got real bad after a while. Solitary isn’t a fun place to be, you understand? It changes you. When he couldn’t be around others, they just locked him up by himself. Chris had plenty of time to think about what he did — and I think it finally put him off the deep end. They call it rehabilitation? I think Abyss proves that’s a bunch of B.S. After a while I didn’t see him at all because they just kept him in there all the time. But I’ll say this – I bet Abyss never expected to see me again.

BANKS: When was the last time you saw Abyss in prison?

TOMKO: When he got tied up on the wall. He’s lucky they didn’t blast him for doing that.

BANKS: Blast him?

TOMKO: Shoot him. That’s what they do when you try to break for it”¦when you try to escape. I couldn’t say for sure if he knew what he was doing. After he got out of solitary he just went psycho in the yard and ran for it. I don’t think he knew what was going on anymore. That barbed wire cut him up pretty bad, too. They had to bring out bolt-cutters to get him out of it. Blood was all over the place. That boy spent a good week in the hospital. After that he never went near that wall again.

BANKS: That explains why he was terrified of competing in the “Barbed Wire Massacre” match last year.

TOMKO: I’d say so too.

BANKS: Do you know anything about Abyss’ family?

TOMKO: Ya, but you’re not hearing any of it.

BANKS: Did his family ever come to visit him?

TOMKO: No (laughs)

BANKS: Why are you laughing?

TOMKO: Next question.

BANKS: Did anyone ever come to see Abyss?

TOMKO: Time to wrap it up, boss — I got things to do besides talk to an internet geek all day.

BANKS: But I’ve got a whole lot more questions.

TOMKO: Sorry — talk to Cage. I’ve said all I’m gonna say.

BANKS: Well, thanks for the interview time. I’m sorry we couldn’t discuss the situation more.

TOMKO: I’m not. But hey, you just might find out his dirty little secret soon enough. Later.
