Remote Destination – How I spent my Christmas

Shows

My Christmas was your typical Christmas. I spent some quality time with family and opened some presents. And eventually I end up in a hospital.

My Christmas began promptly at midnight. Y’see that’s when I got home. Since I knew that I didn’t have work in my immediate future I decided to put in a DVD and kill some hours. The DVD that I chose was the second disc of the first season of Arrested Development.

Man, watching those episodes in rapid succession really reminded me of how great the show was. Obviously I’m not going to say anything about the show that hasn’t be said before. But I can say that spending Christmas with the Bluths was the perfect substitute for my not being able to spend it with my family.

After I devoured that disc I decided to call it a night, after all I wanted to be fresh when I woke up the next morning to deal with presents.

Well, the next “morning” turned into afternoon, as I work up around a quarter after twelve. And after opening my presents I knew exactly what I wanted to tackle next; Grey’s Anatomy.

A couple days earlier I’d received my latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and who did I see on the cover? None other than some of my favorite cast members on Grey’s Anatomy. Both the magazine and the faces on it seemed to be taunting me for having allowed a whopping five episodes pile up, unwatched. So I got comfy on the couch and prepared to an extended stay at Seattle Grace. What follows are my thoughts on episodes that I can’t be bothered to look up the numbers for.

Two Uteruses? – First off, it was obvious that the woman Meredith caught Derek with was his sister. Shame on the writers for trying to pull a stunt like that, even if they winked while doing it. What’s more, in most instances a woman with two uteruses would seem “extra”, but on this show it works (though, while I type this I can’t imagine a more improbable scenario than an engaged woman, with two uteruses getting impregnated by two different men.)

It was cool to see the Jack’s friend from Jack & Bobby and Russell’s secretary from Huff are still working despite both shows cancellations. George stammering and messing up metaphors was pure George. I also really appreciated the conflict they were building with Burke and his diminished skills.

Camping Trip – Being 100% honest; watching this episode it was kind of difficult not to think of the behind the scenes drama. Whether it was Derek and Preston being buddies or all of the gay stuff, it just felt weird.

Oh and the stuff with Addison and the dead baby was totally heartbreaking.

George’s Pop Has Cancer – This episode was kind of blah. Yeah, it was clearly designed to really ramp up the whole “Cristina is hiding Burke’s secret” storyline, but overall the action was pretty boring. Apart from that, it has to suck to be George, the guy gets no respect.

Cristina’s Voiceover – While watching the previous episode I was just noticing how I tended to zone out and ignore what Meredith was talking about during her voiceovers. But now that Cristina’s talking, I’m actually paying attention.

But this episode rocked, because we got to see Preston finally release the tension that’d been building over the past few episodes. Not that I didn’t like his performance in those episodes; his eye acting was excellent. He was giving fantastic glares and his raised eyebrows were amazing. That said, his release was so gratifying. Oh and Dr. Hahn rocks!!

Conjoined Twins – Pretty good episode. I found it kind of odd that Dr. Hahn didn’t know that Cristina and Preston were involved, considering everyone else knew.

The twin storyline was kind of creepy. I mean I’m no expert on conjoined twin etiquette but I’m pretty sure that fiancé was cheating on her twin with his brother. I’m pretty sure that spending quality post-coital time with someone other than the person you just shagged is considered cheating.

All in all it was pretty fun watching all of these episodes consecutively. Watching the evolution of the various relationships was cool. O’malley and Torres keep dancing around. Derek and Meredith starting things all over doesn’t really excite me, but I’m not a fan of their relationships period. I am interested in seeing how the aftershocks of Cristina dropping dime on Preston will play out. I really hope we’ll get to see more of this in future episodes.

And finishing up with Seattle Grace, I finished up the first season of Arrested Development and ended on a high note.

And that is how I spent my Christmas.
