Unsigned: Inborn Suffering Review

WHAT THEY SAY:
Dark/Doom metal from Paris / France. Inborn Suffering is mainly a melting pot of individuals coming from different metal’s horizons. Sounds Like: Anathema, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride.

Forgive the scattered English as it’s not their first language. But that’s about as specific as they get, so… there you go.

THE THRESHOLD:
Inborn Suffering might not be reinventing the doom genre, but they do test its boundaries with great success. Whoever produced their work has done a phenomenal job, allowing a dense orchestral synth to provide a perfect mood in every song. The emotional vocals (both growling and clean) of Fred and the subdued noodling by guitarist Steph are certainly the band’s strongest points. Doom metal has a tendency to become plodding; were this a major-label release I’d be inclined to ding them for some repetitive sludge, but really, these guys have a lot more variety in two songs than some signed bands have on three different albums.

Keep an eye on ’em.
