Ultimate Marvel Handbook # 193

Features

Hey Daron I hope we can get one of these up now on time for once.

On time is irrelevant seeing as we don’t have a set time. Getting one up at least once a week is the goal we should be shooting for.

I know this much I‘m glad someone is getting my stuff up finally.

Indeed. Shall we?

Hello, long time reader, so thought I’d throw a few questions in:

Good to have you as a reader.

Indeed…the more the merrier.

1) What happened with Juggernaught becoming a good guy? When did that happen?

As the result of an undisclosed battle with Cyttorak, his patron deity, Cain lost most of the power of the Juggernaut. Thereafter, Cain reconciled with Xavier and joined the X-Men. In an unusual turn for someone of Cain’s personality he immediately befriended several people at the mansion including a young mutant boy named Sammy Pare, a.k.a. Squidboy, who had a positive influence on him. Cain later allowed himself to be taken into custody and then had a one-night stand with She-Hulk, who as Jennifer Walters was representing him in his trial for all the crimes he had committed as a criminal. Amazingly, Cain was exonerated of all his crimes and allowed to go free despite having numerous outstanding felonies both at home and abroad.

Later, Black Tom Cassidy resurfaced and Juggernaut joined his new Brotherhood of Mutants, with the intention of betraying the group and warning the X-Men when he had the chance. Squidboy stumbled upon the Brotherhood having a meeting, and thinking that Juggernaut had betrayed the X-Men he became angry and started yelling. Annoyed, Black Tom killed the boy. Furious with rage, Juggernaut tried to kill his former friend. When the Brotherhood were sucked into a black hole by the second Xorn, Juggernaut accompanied them to make sure Nocturne (another mole) would be safe if everyone survived and to make sure the Brotherhood didn’t try to attack the mansion again.

He ended up in Mojoworld and became the property of Mojo along with Nocturne. To escape, Nocturne took control of Mojo’s henchwoman, Spiral, and opened a portal to the X-Men’s Danger Room, where they were reunited with the team. This, however, was a trap set by Spiral, who was in more control of her body than thought, leaving a portal open to allow Mojo to cross over as well. Mojo turned the X-Men into X-Babies, but they managed to overpower his forces anyway. Juggernaut still felt extremely guilty about Squidboy’s death, and how the boy’s last words were that he hated him. He wondered if he should remain a child, this being his chance to start over with a clean slate, but Storm comforted him and convinced him not to. The X-Men were re-aged, and Juggernaut remained with the team.

In the wake of House of M, in which the majority of the mutant population has lost their powers, Juggernaut has joined the new Excalibur grouping in London.

2) I’ve seen a couple of references to the hulk trashing Las Vegas before Planet Hulk – what happened there – I thought the Hulk liked the place. .

I can explain it.

Fantastic Four, vol 3 #533-535: Hulk was recruited to deal with a Gamma bomb not far from Las Vegas. Of course he fails killing the army men who took him there. The FF is contacted to deal with it. Of course we get a Hulk/Thing fight and Hulk going wild. He got effected by the Gamma that it made him extra angry and out of control. Destroying parts of Vegas

Dan emails:

Firstly I hope you both had a happy holidays and its good to see you
back.

I know I did

It’s good to be back, and yeah my holidays were pretty good…all told.

Whilst playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance over the holidays I noticed
Daredevil’s armored costume as a changeable skin and it got me wondering, what, who or why caused DD to change to this costume? I seem to remember a bit of a fuss about it but it seemed to disappear soon afterwards. Was it a decision that was so badly received it was changed back as soon as possible and was their any reason to change it storywise?

Well Daredevil has had only a few costumes of note:

1. Yellow:

First appeared in Daredevil #1
Early issues had one ‘D’ on chest, then ‘DD’ later on.
Daredevil Yellow, the mini-series, revealed that the original material of the costume was made of Jack Murdock’s boxing robe.
This costume lasted until issue #6, although it made a reappearance when Matt/Jack Batlin was having an identity crisis.

2. Red:

First appeared in Daredevil #7
Wally Wood created this costume that most people know well. This costume also had a billy club holster. In early issues, it was shown that the horns on the costume were antennae that could pick up radiowaves. Daredevil wore this costume from issues #7 until the Fall From Grace .

3. Black:

First appeared in Daredevil #319-#325
Designed by D.G.Chichester and Scott McDaniel, this costume had armour and billy clubs that attached to his forearm. The two clubs could be attached together to form a staff. This costume lasted until issue #344, where DD went back to his red costume, after this costume was torn to shreds.

Flying Blind:

Appeared in Daredevil #376-379
This was the costume DD wore when he was undercover as Laurent Levasseur in France. He was unaware that he was Daredevil/Matt Murdock.

Daredevil: Father:

Appeared in Daredevil: Father #3-4
To help in his battle against the Santerians, DD donned this costume, complete with motorbike.

Man Without Fear:

Pre-Daredevil costume
In the Man Without Fear limited series, Matt used this as a ‘costume’ to rescue Mickey.

Don’t leave it so long next time.

We‘ll try not to.

That’s for sure. I’m hoping any breaks I may have to take in the future are MUCH shorter…

My top 5 must read Marvel comics last week

1. FANTASTIC FOUR #542: The Fantastic Four as we know them are finished, torn apart by the strife of CIVIL WAR! What will happen to the fragmented first family of Marveldom now—and will some other foursome rise to take their place?

2. SHE-HULK #15: Now that the ILLUMINATI have shot the HULK into space… Who’s going to fight all of his bad guys? Enter SHE-HULK: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Spinning out of events from CIVIL WAR and PLANET HULK, the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is shipping She-Hulk off to Hulk-related hotspots around the globe– where she’ll be taking on villains from A-Z! Or, in this case, from the Abomination to Zzzax! That’s right, gamma-fans, it’s the Emerald Amazon in her most ACTION-PACKED ADVENTURE EVER! AND IT ALL STARTS HERE!

3. SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #34: While Spider-Man bounces back from the brutal beating he received at the hands of the Rhino, the Black Cat takes it upon herself to deliver a little payback. Of course, since he outweighs her by a few tons, Felicia Hardy might need some help.
Calling…the Puma! It’s revenge, feline-style, in this third issue that spotlights the women in Peter Parker’s life post-unmasking!

4. EXILES #90: A new era for EXILES begins here! Legend Chris Claremont (UNCANNY X-MEN) starts a run that will have Exiles fans talking for years to come. And he’s not the only one joining up, as X-Woman PSYLOCKE joins the team as well. What is she doing there? How will the team deal with her arrival? And what new villains plan on destroying every world in existence?!

5. CABLE & DEADPOOL #36: DEADPOOL has decided to face the skeletons in his closet, dive deep into that dark void he calls a soul, and rattle things up a bit. First order of business: TASKMASTER. Second order of business: a knock-down drag-out BRAWL!

Civil War update

Blade 5: We start with Wolvie escape from the Helicarrier and taking Hill hostage before escaping. We then jump forward to Blade fighting Morbius who we find out is registered as SHIELD arrived and take down Blade. Hill meets with Blade about his last encounter with SHIELD where he caused the helicarrier to crash and cost the government around $90 billion. But Hill will allow him to go if he captures Wolverine. Blade agrees to do it. We flashback to when Blade hung with thieves, one is beaten up and Blade checks it out. Present: Blade tracks Wolvie and they fight. Each are a match for the other. Blade threatens Wolvie with vampire blood and Wolvie calls his bluff. Blade stops fighting and apologizes leaving in peace. Hill yells at Blade about this and he’ll do something else because he owed Wolverine. Ending with a flashback when Blade tried to take down thevampire and Wolverine came to help him. This last flashback was why Blade left Wolverine go.

Thunderbolts 110: We see Bullseye in and interrogation room answering to a mystery man who tells him he’s been implanted with a net of nanometer-sized wires and transponders. If Bullseye tries to escape he will become brain damaged and paralyzed. We see a falshback to when Bullseye was in the hospital with Daredevil had a gun pointed at his head. Bullseye is to be part of the Thunderbolts and after a year paid $10 million and told to leave the country. Bullseye sweats as we see Norman Osborn is the mystery man. Cleveland: Jack Flag argues with his girlfriend over his old uniform as a woman is attacked on the street outside their apartment. Jack goes to help her. We then see a special report about the Thunderbolts in Colorado in Thunderbolts mountain. The team are taken to a ship while torpedo’s are launched. The Thunderbotls are seated as a seperate T-wagen is sent out of the base which will be a prison. The T-Bolts themselves go out in the Zeus. We see a commercial after about a T-Bolt toy line. We go back to the interview with Moonstone who Norman wants to lead the Thunderbolts instead of Songbird. She will earn tons of money and allowed to keep the moonstone. She agrees to do it. Ohio: Jack gets back to his place and sees the torpedo recon. He gets inside and tells his girlfriend to go to her mothers. She hugs him and begs him not to do this.

Fantastic Four 542: Johnny in disguise meets with Reed in a coffee shop about registration and how it is effecting the FF. Reed says it can’t be broken and Johnny argues the FF bend the rules all the time. We find out they are going to find the Thinker and recruit him to help Reed. Reed has calculated social changes and needs Thinker to check his work. Thinker declines and Reed tells him he’ll be locked up otherwise so Thinker agrees. At the Baxter Building they come across men from Damage Control. Frankling and Valeria throw bricks from the other floor. Reed goes and tells the kids to find Aunt Alicia and promises to play later. Paris: Thing and Anais walk threw the Catacombs. They find a HYDRA hide out and take them out before Ben tells Anais he’s going home. Johnny shows up with a Fantasticar asking Thing why he wasn’t at the funeral for Goliath of course and why he’s in Paris. Johnny leaves and tells Thing he’s needed home. Back with Reed and Thinker as they discuss Reed’s theories as to why the SHRA is needed and how he knew Stamford would happen. Thinker can’t find a flaw and even sees Reed knew everything since needed to happen. Reed sees the SHRA in a mathematically matter unlike Tony who sees it as a hero matter. Reed has been acting as a scientist even with his family falling apart. Thinker reveals Sue is there and that Reed is a moronic genius as Sue yells at him and storms out again.

There’s another edition of the Marvel Handbook for everyone. Now I know it’s a light edition still we’re getting better. What do you think Daron?

I think it may take a few weeks to get everyone back on board, but we’ll be here, waiting with baited breath for those emails…

I think we will get better. I‘ll catch you all next week. I‘m hoping for tons of emails instead of all information.

1. Digital comics Comics you can read online

2. Marvel is in the process of adding new bios and added a ton of new ones. Check them out here

3. As always your opinions on anything in the article or out on the shelves is welcome. After all you never know what type of response you will get.

4. Keep those emails coming and make sure to label them Marvel Handbook. The more emails the better the article is.
