American Idol returned to its DOMINANT self and would have easily been the most-watched show this week. In fact, more people watched the premiere of American Idol this year than last year. It seems to be one of the few shows that gets stronger as the seasons pass. HOWEVER, CBS had one final NFL Playoff Game to show and it was such a close and fantastic game that it STOLE the win away from American Idol. Grey’s Anatomy finished third, as a result. It should probably stay in second place for the rest of the season behind American Idol, though. This is becoming ABC’s only bright spot in a weak overall schedule for them.

Even with the returns of American Idol and 24, FOX wasn’t able to take home the top spot this week. They were close, but it wasn’t enough as they faltered towards the end and finished . Of course, the numbers might be a little skewed this week as CBS was able to be #1 again this week, but only because they had the final NFL Playoff game on Sunday. AND it was a CLOSE game! NBC, FOX, and CBS were pretty much tied going into yesterday and CBS was only able to win thanks to football. They won’t have the NFL to fall back on next week, so things should be interesting. NBC got a lot of help from the Golden Globes Award Show this week, but they have just enough of a consistent lineup to compete with CBS and FOX. That shocks me as their shows don’t bring home BIG numbers, but they rarely fail to deliver viewers. Things only get even more interesting from here. Stay tuned…
