ECW on Sci-Fi 1/30/2007

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

We start off with Vince McMahon walking backstage and he meets Marquis Cor Von. Marquis is a welcome change, according to Mr. McMahon. Vince then meets Sandman, who’s reading a newspaper. Vince doesn’t like Sandman drinking on the job. Vince sings an old Chordettes song just to spite him.

Our obligatory ECW intro with “Bodies” by Drowning Pool plays along with the montage.

CM Punk Vs Matt Striker

Matt appears upset to start things off. This is a rematch from a couple of weeks or so back when Punk won after a Kelly Kelly distraction. Matt fights CM while Matt’s trunks fight with Matt. Scott Armstrong is your referee for the evening, by the way. The match is mostly back and forth. Striker gets the pin after having his hand on the middle ropes.

Winner: Matt Striker

Joey Styles and Tazz quickly discuss the Undertaker winning the Royal Rumble from 2 nights before, then Undertaker making a surprise appearance at the end of last night’s Raw. UT can challenge either the WWE Heavyweight, World Heavyweight or ECW World Champion at WrestleMania 23. “Ladies And Gentlemen” by Saliva plays as UT shows up on Raw to stare at John Cena and Shawn Michaels.

ECW Extreme Rules, available on DVD now!

Vince meets Rebecca, who gives him a hug. Vince meets Tommy Dreamer, another ECW Original (and former Raw guy). Vince asks about Tommy’s last name. Vince doesn’t deal in dreams, but in reality. Tommy’s less than enthusiastic about Vince’s treatment and attitude towards the old guard.

Rob Van Dam Vs Bob “Hardcore” Holly

A couple of men with a history of violence against one another in the Sci-Fi Era. This is also a battle of former WWF/WWE Hardcore Champions. Bob and Rob go back and forth early on until Holly teases the Alabama Slam, but Rob gets out of it. Rob calls out to the crowd with the, “RVD” taunt before getting back to his match. The action eventually spills to the outside with Holly being tossed outside and RVD flying out to meet him. Both are on the floor as we go to break.

Back from break and the action is back in the ring, with Holly in charge. Rob gets the advantage and RVD nails a bottom rope legdrop for 2. Rob tries another top rope move, but Bob pushes him to the outside, facefirst to the WWE rail of pain. Bob then throws Rob against the steps outside before rolling him back inside the ring. Rob tries to fight back with the crowd cheering him on. A spinning heel kick evens the odds as the ref administers the 10 count. Both get up midway through and slug it out. Bob with a Gagne Dropkick gets 2. Rob gets the advantage once again and hits a Missile Dropkick. Rolling Thunder by RVD gets the crowd into the match, but Bob kicks out of the followup pinfall attempt. Bob counters a Monkeyflip with a Counter Powerbomb, which gets 2. Bob goes up top, but Rob messes up his balance. They fight for a moment with Bob knocking Rob down, then trying a splash off the top, only to get kicked in the face again. Bob’s nose appears to be bleeding. They fight back and forth and Bob gets the win with the Alabama Slam.

Winner: Bob “Hardcore” Holly

Vince meets Sabu backstage. Vince makes a reference to the Taliban before recognizing Sabu officially. He tells Sabu to stay away from him. Coming up, Lashley Vs Test one more time and Mr. McMahon up next!

We get a promo for WrestleMania 23 with the same Saliva song playing. 61 days away!

Vince is backstage and he meets Balls Mahoney who is listening to to something on his headphone. They go over Irish heritage. Vince likes his last name, but hates his first. Vince mentions that we may find out whether or not Balls has…well…balls.

We get our non-wrestling sequence involving women, Kelly Kelly, Layla and Brooke. They dance and do Nitro Girl type stuff as the crowd watches on. The song (if I’m not mistaken) is “Dirty” by Christina Aguilera. We’re interrupted by Mr. McMahon. The Paul Heyman-less and Tod Gordon-less ECW show has Mr. McMahon now in the ring. The ladies are shown out of the ring and the crowd boos. Vince’s security guys exit the ring. Vince is wearing the same jacket that he wore on Raw. Vince thinks the ECW Originals suck. He then lets the fans of the original ECW know that they suck as well. The fans chant, “you suck.” Vince considers Elijah Burke the epitome of the New ECW. Elijah is introduced and he makes his way to the ring. Elijah speaks and is booed. Vince and Elijah give the fans a photo opportunity, but for less seconds than Edge and Christian used to do years back. The fans chant, “boring,” loud and clear. Sandman arrives with a cane and he slides in to fight Elijah. Tommy Dreamer then arrives to help Sandman. Then Balls shows up to assist. Sabu then arrives to pile on. Elijah is beaten up by the Tommy, Sandman, Balls and Sabu. Balls Combo, Sandman cane shot, Raven DDT by Dreamer, Sabu then gives Elijah the Arabian Facebuster with the chair and table. Joey gives the resident, “OH MY GOD!” to complete the old school flashback. Vince doesn’t look too happy about ECW Originals’ actions.

Time now for the Main Event as Bobby Lashley and Test face off once more for the ECW World Title!

ECW World Heavyweight Championship

Bobby Lashley (Champ) Vs Test

Mickey Henson is your referee for this match. Lashley was not satisfied with the Royal Rumble finish, winning by countout, thus the rematch. The action almost immediately goes outside. Tazz makes it clear on commentary that this is not Extreme Rules. Test pulls away some of the mat and tries to piledrive Bobby, but Bobby reverses with a backdrop to the floor. And we go to break!

Back from break as Test has the advantage and we’re back in the ring. During the break, Bobby tried to Spear Test in the corner, but Test dodged, causing Bobby to smack the post shoulderfirst. Test has since started working over Bobby’s left shoulder. Bobby begins to fight back. High Angle Suplex by Bobby, but Test fights back. Test misses the Boot To The Face and Bobby hits the Exploder. Davey Boy Powerslam finishes and Bobby gets the pinfall.

Winner And Still ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bobby Lashley

Bobby’s celebration is short lived as Undertaker scares the ref and stares at Bobby. Test runs in with a chair, but UT Chokeslams him out of the picture and looks at Bobby the entire time. UT signals that he wants the ECW World Title, quite possibly. And that’s our show!
