Hey Daron it‘s another good week here. You‘ll enjoy the questions I bet.

It’s your money…

I‘m glad to see it myself but I hope you don‘t throw any more man love comments this week.

Well, that’s entirely up to you, my friend.

Now let‘s get down to the column.

Brandon emails

Jim,

Been awhile since I wrote but I saw the new animated Iron Man movie and had some questions about various hero/villians.

A few guys I work with and me were talking about the new Iron Man movie and one of them was really eager to have it but seemed shocked I wasn’t but to me a Hero is only as good as there rouges..so to speak and while Iron Man is a badass in the Avengers his gallary of villians is lacking in IMO.

I mean Spider-Man,Wolverine, Even Thor have some pretty cool villans..Granted Thor’s are cool mostly cause they are gods or trying to end the world but still…Hell how popular would DC’s Bats really be without his varied and strange collection of villians.

But we got to talking and Marvel seems to be lacking in the one on one versus thing..I mean the teams all have cool villians..X-Men, The Avengers, Hell even the Secret Defenders fought some pretty off the wall people…maybe not the coolest but different anyway.

What do yall think..I mean I really go to thinking about it and thought..Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Moon Knight…They all have maybe, MAYBE no more then five decent villians each..Hell Spider man has 20 I can think of without trying…Agree? Disagree? If I am wrong who do these people fight?

I know the good ones: Cap-Red Skull, Crossbones, Taskmaster(now and then), Iron Man has..um…The Mandarian and…um…I don’t know. Hulk has The Leader, Abomation and Tyrannus(pre planet Hulk)….How do they not have more villians after all these years??

Hmmmmm well in way you make a good point. But some of the Marvel villains are more general. I mean the all around Marvel villains are mostly cool.

Let’s take some of the names you mention:

Iron Man:

Mandarin
Justin Hammer
Spymaster
Titanium Man
Crimson Dynamo
Ultimo
Controller
Ghost
Living Lightning
Madame Masque
Odibiah Stane

Cap:

Red Skull
Crossbones
Viper
Baron Zemo (pre Thunderbolts)
Batroc
Arnim Zola
Serpent Society

Ok Cap needs more.

Hulk:

Abomination
Leader
Juggernaut
Maestro
ZZZax
Tyrannus
U-Foes
Ringmaster
Red King

Most of the others would be harder. I admit Marvel doesn’t have to many for each but some do go for more then one also.

Guys like Thanos, Mephisto and some others like too.

A question that was just brought up and I have to ask…If Apocalypse went over to the DC side(hell use Access if you have too) who do you think would make a great four horsemen from there and why? Do you think with the right four horsemen he could do some major damage in the DCU? Who do you think could stop him?

Hmmmmmm I‘m not a big DC guy but

Horsemen:

War: Batman
Death: Superman
Pestilence: Joker
Famine: Doomsday

With those Horsemen no one would stop him. I mean Daron might have better even.

Hmmm, are we talking good guys and bad?

Well then I’d say:

War: Hal Jordan – Green Lantern
Death: Wonder Woman
Pestilence: Scarecrow
Famine: Bart Allen – The Flash

Doomsday is such a crutch in my mind, and hate it every time he appears. And I also think that killing would be so against Supes’ nature that it would cause him to break whatever programming Apocalypse would put on him. Anyway, that’s the team I’d like to see, they’d be pretty hardcore.

Here is one that is pure what would YOU find good or funny or creepy or whatever…Came to me while watching Back to the Future but kinda hard to explain but I am going to try.

First part…If you could take any 5 current heroes and 5 current villians and have them meet an earlier version of themselves which 5 of each would it be and why? Which earlier version would you have them meet and how would you handle it?

Hmmmmmmm complicated but can do it.

Wolverine Meets his Team X self
Cap meets himself before he became Nomad
Hulk/Bruce meets Bruce around the time his father was around
Spider-Man meets himself when he was a young man

Hmmmm the last would be hard. I have to think this over more

Now a second part, little more involved I think. Take any 5 current heroes and place them as they are now to fight back in the days of their early times and why the heroes you choose and how do you think they would react and fare..On the same token take 5 heroes from the past at anypoint which you pick and plop them down in the here and now facing current villians and problems..Which 5 and why them and how do you think they would do? Now do the same for 5 villians current and 5 villians past?

This one sounds even more complicated.

So I got to take 5 heroes and have them fight in the past?

Then take 5 past and bring them to fight in the present?

*gets head ache.*

I’m going to try the past to present:

Iron Man in the old fashioned armor and bringing him here.
Captain America WW II bringing him here
Punisher Nam version
Spider-Man from teen years to now
Weapon X Wolverine to present

I.E. Taking the multi-armed Spiderman and putting him in the here and now or taking Venom and putting him back in the “more innocent” time of the very early spidy stories etc etc..

Not the easiest challenge. This one would be better with more time

I honestly have no idea what’s going on here. I’m going to go hide in a hole till it’s over…

I personally i’m still not feeling the new contest, but hey that is just me. on to my question. so in this past week’s x-factor it was said that if madrox was holding a nuclear device and then he made a dupe that the dupe would be holding the device as well. now in the x-factor thread people have mentioned that this has been touched on before. so where has it been touched on? i didn’t know he was able to do this.

I think I‘ll just end the tournament idea.

I think in a way it has. When Jamie‘s dupe had the legacy virus any dupes it would make would have the legacy virus. If he absorbed the dupe back he would have it. It‘s the same type principal.

Man…that’s a whole other power right there. I’d totally empty my savings account (in high dollar bills) and start duping till I had millions. Man, I have to write PAD and have him tell that story…The Day Maddrox Made Millions.

Jim, just because occasionally I have to let Daron have some credit (don’t let it go to your head boss man), let’s think about this for a second…

Quote:

A hundred and fifty billion ton mountain? I know this is comics and all, but I think even a ten year old would realize that the physics of such a feat were so impossible that they wouldn’t believe it…even if he were strong enough to do it. I could go on here and give examples of what I’m talking about, but I’m sure you all know what I’m saying…

OK, forget the strength issue of this, which is ridiculous enough, but we’ll suspend disbelief on that. Let’s look at the pressure on the floor beneath the Hulk. Hulk has really big feet, I’ll grant you. But even if we very generously state that his feet are 4 square ft in size each, and that somehow he’s flat-footed enough that every square inch of his feet touches the floor (which is in itself, impossible), that’s 150 billion tons pushing down on 8 sq ft.

Which if we convert that into psi, is approximately 260,000,000,000 psi. 260 Billion psi. If you can find any material that wouldn’t have not only crumbled but also actually started some sort of atomic fusion reaction under that sort of pressure, I don’t know what it is.

So DK, your physics is safe.

I‘ll let Daron know. Wait he should know now reading that.

Yes, but does Jim get the fact that such a feat is completely impossible, even given comic book physics? That was my point.

Cory emails

Sup guys…Cory’s here & so are my questions:

Hey Cory

1. In the DC Comics one-shot The Lobo Convention Special, The Silver Surfer is seen getting knocked off his board. WTF? Geez, deep down I know that this is a jab at Marvel from DC…for not DC’s cred, but Lobo’s credibility (since he lost it against Wolverine)….but in an actual battle? C’mon guys, when does common sense set in?

Well DC has had problems with the Wolverine thing for as long as it happened. Most DC fans don‘t like it was well. I think Dc is getting it‘s punches in at DC like Marvel is at times but DC could be going to far.

That hardly sounds like they’re going “too far”…

2. Has it ever been explained why the Kingpin is in jail anyway?

Recently, he hatched a scheme to be freed and regain his wealth by giving the F.B.I. proof in the form of the nonexistent “Murdock Papers” that Matt Murdock is Daredevil. Having made so many enemies who were in prison, Fisk was constantly under attack from the Hand, HYDRA, or any number of criminal organizations with which he had had intimate contact. The U.S. Government was hard pressed to get rid of this expensive, dangerous, legally clean master criminal, and Fisk succeeded in manipulating the F.B.I. into gravely wounding Daredevil and directing them to his D.N.A. He tells Ben Urich to give the feds the location of the Night Nurse, the only medic for injured superheroes, or go to jail.

He succeeded in getting Matt Murdock finally arrested, but the F.B.I. betrayed him at the last minute and arrested him as well, placing him in the same jail as Murdock with hopes that the two would kill each other. Ironically, the enemies were forced to team up in order to survive a prison riot which was directed at them. Finally, Murdock sacrificed the deal, refusing to let Bullseye, who was also incarcerated, leave the prison as Kingpin had planned. The fight ended with the Kingpin shot point-blank in the knee by gunfire from Bullseye intended for Murdock, while Murdock escaped.

3. I realized this…but since Magneto is a major villain, and hates Nazi persecutors & The Red Skull is a major villain, who hates Jews or anyone who is not German…has their paths ever crossed? If so, what happened?

Ah yes. This did happen. Let’s take us back to Acts of Vengeance. They sort of seemed to be on the right side at points. Skull was attacked by the mutant terrorist Magneto, a Jewish Holocaust survivor who wanted to punish him for his involvement in Hitler’s regime. Magneto buried him alive with enough water for a few months. The Skull remained there until he was rescued by his henchman Crossbones.

4. The costume of the Stingray has always been a favorite of mine. I know that he is a former Avenger, but what really has been his claim to fame? Battles, iconic moments, or any of the like?

Stingray reluctantly did so, but later let Namor leave.

He was also targeted by Iron Man (Tony Stark) during the Armor Wars until Stark determined his suit did not contain any stolen technology.

Stingray joined the Avengers when they assisted him against the Lava Men. He and his wife became the caretakers of Hydro Base and offered the Avengers use of the facilities. Hydro Base has since been destroyed.

Newell continues his research and occasionally still acts as Stingray. He was most recently seen acting as part of the “Secret Avengers.”

5. Since we already know the lineup of “The Mighty Avengers”, I was gonna ask about the members of the “New Avengers” –post civil war, but… It has been announced that the New Avengers team in 2007 will include Echo, a new Ronin, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, Iron Fist and Luke Cage as the leader of the team. This has lead me to a few more questions:

5A- Where’s Cap?

I think Cap is alive. He might be taking a bit of time off as a member of the group. Let Luke take the lead for a bit before coming back. He does have the Red Skull to deal with.

5B- Why Luke in charge? I LOVE him being in charge…but I just think that he is keeping the leadership seat warm for Cap or Cap chose him to lead the team?

Cap likely put Cage in charge. Who’s better? Well although Strange is Cage has been with the group longer.

5C- Since Cap was thawed out, I’ve always acknowledged him as the leader…has any other members lead the group instead of him? and did they fare well?

Avengers Chairmen:

Captain America
Hawkeye
Wasp
Black Widow
Iron Man
Thor
Pulsar
Vision
Hank Pym
Scarlet Witch
Doctor Druid
Black Panther, Hulk, Quicksilver, Swordsman, Hercules & Black Knight

Mostly Cap was the best but others like Clint and Wasp did decent jobs.

5D- A new Ronin? Who can that be? I also love the idea of Doc Strange there, and Luke & Danny back together on a team.

I think it’s possibly Clint

Does Clint have enough Martial skill to disguise himself as a ninja? As soon as “Ronin” pulls out a bow the jig will be up…

6. So since Wolverine #50 has been released, what’s your take on what Sabretooth told Logan? “That he is destined to become what Sabretooth is”

I actually liked that part. I get it in reality. He could very well have become Creed or still can if he lost touch with everything holding him together.

7. So ole Dog Logan….oops…Victor Creed has battled Luke Cage, Thor, Spider-Man, and DD, any answer on who won in those early encounters?

Well luckily most times the heroes mostly survived the battles not really won them but came out on top enough to not be killed.

8. So Daron, why do you know like X-23 more than ole Logan?? Do you James or your mixed? Like 2pac is my fave rapper, Logan will always be my fave superhero. That’s just my opinion.

This is all yours Daron

I think I’ve explained this in bits and pieces every time someone asks about Logan. But here are the basics:

1) Logan is played out. He’s been played out for years. If you’re going to use a character in more than a third of your regular titles (only a slight exaggeration there), then he needs to be made more interesting all the time, and not less so.

2) The original Origin story was horrible, as is Logan’s “real name.” Come on, seriously, Jim? Wolverine’s Origin should have NEVER been told, that was what made him so interesting. Now that I know his stupid origin I’ve lost a lot of respect for the character.

3) An ongoing Origin title? This just irks me to no end…not to mention it’s horrible (and no I don’t actually have to read to tell you that it’s horrible because there’s no damn way I’d ever buy that drivel). But the sheer fact that they are producing this crap just makes me hate the character more.

4) In general, the character just isn’t fun anymore. His stories have been boring, and his revelations have been horrible. Give me a new “clawed” person to enjoy…

9. So if tobey maguire leaves, hmmmm who could play ole Spidey in the future films….because we all know that #4 is coming…..I think Jake Gyllenhal…is perfect as the next PP. How does that sound?

Sounds good to me but I think Tobey was signed to 4 movies.

I’m pretty sure the current cast only signed for 3, and I’ve also heard they all want out after 3. Jake would be good…especially since he was slated to replace Tobey back on 2 when he was hurt.

10. We all know that Cap hates killing…especially with Mr. Castle, but what if he did actually kill Tony, just to win the war. But IM is in the Mighty Avengers, so that may seem highly unlikely…unless Rhodey is actually in the armor. Which makes Cap a fugutive, again, and that’s why he isn’t in the New Avengers. Or he goes on a personal mission to take down the Red Skull on his own….I just can’t picture him….Gone!

Heh. I think you just agreed on where I think Cap is. I think Tony is alive too.

11. Why did cap make a deal with the Kingpin to “give up Cloak & Dagger” anyway? Though he ended up getting them back, was this part of his plan?

I think it was all part of his plans. Can’t take them all in the secret entrance get them in another way.

12. Last week, you mentioned Colleen Wing on the list of Luke Cage women (which may have happened obviously in Heroes for Hire), but Emma Frost??? Who has she been with? or shall I say who hasn’t she been with in Marvel?

Heh. I care to call Emma the woman everyone and their grandfather has been with in the Marvel universe. I say she sleeps around too much and the fact she seems to spread her legs for any man.

So much for our PG rating…

13. As for She-Hulk, who the hell is Jason Sitwell?

Real Name: Jasper Sitwell
Occupation: SHIELD special director
Other Aliases: Jason Sitwell
Place of Birth: Salt Lake City, Utah
Marital Status: Married
Known Relatives: Colin Sitwell (father), Sally Sitwell (mother), Gregory Sitwell (brother), Jason Sitwell (paternal grandfather, deceased), unnamed wife
Group Affiliation: SHIELD I-II
Source of Powers: None

14. About Wolverine seeing Jean in the hereafter, every time he dies, why Jean? Is it because she is a love of his life or because at the present time, she is deceased?

I think it’s the fact at the present time she’s dead. If I recall right back in Fatal Attractions he saw Illyana. I bet he’s seen Fox too.

15. I have yet to buy War Journal #3, but how many times have Cap & Frank fought and who wins the most?

I don‘t think they‘ve fought too many times. Maybe once or twice but I think Cap has won most of the battles.

Thanks fellas…I have like 10+ more questions, but I will save them for next week…because that Emma Frost question may take up some room. In Boston later this month for a weekend, but I’m back to stay, so as long as you keep answering, I’ll keep asking. It’s all “love”, but no “man love”, I’ll leave that to Northstar & Mr. Immortal, lol. See ya in 7!!!

lol none here either. I just like seeing someone have tons of questions and keeping us going like you do.

Nice cover guys…really.
