UWF Report: First Time Ever – Steiners vs. Team 3D

UWF LIVE
WILMINGTON, NC
FEBRUARY 3, 2007

Just got back a little bit ago, from the UWF show in Wilmington, NC. The main event was for the first time ever, 3D versus The Steiner Brothers. It was clear that was the draw from the crowd of, my guesstimate would be in the 500-700 range, which basically sold out from what I could tell. The crowd was 90% for 3D, but basically that’s how Wilmington was, 90% for the face team. Good flow throughout, with it ending in a DQ with Brother Runt running to the ring to cost 3D the match. 3D said they didn’t want it to end that way and how he has cost them the NWA Championships before, so they wanted the Steiners to have their way with him. They beat him for a brief bit and then it was 3D’s turn as the Steiners hung out to watch. The tables were brought in and Spike sold the table spot. The crowd was pleased because after the match, 3D said it was an honor to have their first match ever with them and how the Steiners were the greatest tag team ever. The Steiners gave 3D the same type of props. They brought a kid who was dressed just like Scott Steiner into the ring and gave him a piece of the table. Very classy and a classy show in general.

On a personal note, my sister and I went to the event and this was our first TNA type show. It did have a little bit of WWE feel, with some things dragging a little on the mic, but nothing took too much away from the show. We went to meet the Steiners afterwards, and they were very great with everyone. I had met Rick before, and he’s always been nice (“Is Bambi your God-given name?”) and Scott was quiet but friendly. As you can tell, the photo turned out great!

One of the other highlights of the show was the second-to-last match: Maven (with April Hunter) versus D-Lo Brown. They worked the mic on each other and, during the match, D-Lo got all his trademark spots in but the frogsplash. I had no idea Maven had a giant Batista/Brock Lesnar type back tattoo happening and is now a heel. April’s face looks like a cross between Mickie James and Lita. Maven won with a roll up after April tried to interfere, then D-Lo spanked her in the middle of the ring for a good pop.

Some notes on the rest of the card:

Frankie Kazarian was in the opening match with Matt Bentley, beating JD Michaels in a good, solid match.

Diamonds in the Rough (Primetime and David Young) faced a team called Team Action in another solid match, with the Diamonds taking the win.

Brother Runt and Jerry Lynn tag-teamed against Steve Corino and Bull Buchanan with CW Anderson in their corner. Brother Runt drank most of the match which was funny, at one point going to get beer upstairs, when surprise, they weren’t selling any beer at all. He came back with bottled water but left and got a beer in the back. He eventually left Lynn but Lynn still beat the odds and won.

Matt Bentley beat a guy whose name we missed (labelled as ‘a guy who looks like The Miz’), winning with a Bentley pin after Kazarian caned his opponent.

UWF put on a good show – I do hope they come back to the area. For more info go to www.uwfusa.com.

Cheers!
