Spider-Man 2.1: Extended Cut Coming in April

News, Press Releases

The year of Spider-Man kicks off with the two-disc DVD debut on April 17 of Spider-Man 2.1: Extended Cut, introducing eight minutes of never-before-seen footage. An absolute must for all collectors, the release comes loaded with all-new bonus materials, including an introduction by producers Grant Curtis and Avi Arad; commentary by producer Laura Ziskin and by two-time Oscar® winning screenwriter Alvin Sargent (Julia, 1978; Ordinary People, 1981); the featurette Inside 2.1, highlighting new visual effects, editing and sound design; and a sneak peek of Spider-Man 3 (in theaters May 4).

Spider-Man 2 reunites the cast and filmmakers from the first adventure: Tobey Maguire (The Good German, Seabiscuit), Kirsten Dunst (Bring It On, Marie Antoinette), James Franco (Annapolis, The Wicker Man), Rosemary Harris (Being Julia) and J.K. Simmons (Thank You for Smoking), all under the leadership of director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, The Evil Dead) and producers Laura Ziskin (Spider-Man, Pretty Woman) and Marvel’s Avi Arad (X-Men, Daredevil). Joining the ensemble cast are Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code) as Dr. Otto Octavius (“Doc Ock”), Daniel Gillies (Bride & Prejudice) as John Jameson, Vanessa Ferlito (Grindhouse) as Louise, Dylan Baker (The Matador) as Dr. Curt Connors and Donna Murphy (World Trade Center) as Rosalie Octavius.

In Spider-Man 2 – which set box-office records and earned over $780 million worldwide – Maguire returns as the mild-mannered Peter Parker, who is juggling the delicate balance of his dual life as college student and a superhuman crime fighter. Peter’s life becomes even more complicated when he confronts a new nemesis, the brilliant Otto Octavius (Molina) who has been reincarnated as the maniacal and multi-tentacled “Doc Ock.” When Doc Ock kidnaps MJ (Dunst), Spider-Man must swing back into action as the adventure reaches new heights of unprecedented excitement.
