They are arguably the strongest all-female team ever to compete in The Amazing Race. But you’d never know it by looking at them. Though they may no longer be the reigning Miss California and Miss New York, Dustin Konzelman and Kandice Pelletier are back to once again break the stereotype of the dumb blonde.
Now, there’s no denying it – the first thing you notice about these girls is that they’re good looking. And not in that odd beauty queen sense either. And they’re not afraid to use those looks to get them further ahead in the Race. Conversely, they’re also unafraid of performing physical and/or messy tasks, showing that they’re willing to work hard to get further in the Race. And it showed in their results – in five of their eleven legs, they finished second or better.
The irony is that Dustin and Kandice weren’t even the highest placed all-female team in their season of The Amazing Race – that honour went to Lyn and Karlyn (“Alabama”), who were not the strongest Racers ever, but always managed to not finish last when it mattered. Lyn and Karlyn got to race to the Finish Line, and the Beauty Queens did not. Truth of the matter is, the other two Final Three teams – Tyler/James and Rob/Kimberly – were quite happy to see the two blondes gone, because the two girls had shown both the heart and the ability to reach the Finish Line first. Luckily for the teams, the girls didn’t get the chance and it was a two-horse race to get to the Finish Line.
The competitive spirit and deceptive strength and abilities of these two ladies made them a favourite of mine last season, and I expect to see more of that this season as I expect them to reach the Finish Line in The Amazing Race: All Stars.
