I Killed The Prom Queen – Music For The Recently Deceased Review

From the very beginning of this album, you know that I Killed The Prom Queen isn’t going to be just another band with a fantastic name that doesn’t live up to hype. Evoking bands in the hardcore genre such as As I Lay Dying and Darkest Hour, I Killed The Prom Queen nails down the art of hardcore perfectly, keeping you interested throughout the entire album.

To be honest, I wrote them off as just another hardcore band in the beginning. But after repeated listens to Music For The Recently Deceased I can say that I backpedaled and became a fan. They don’t follow that same monotony as other formulaic hardcore bands do – namely the scream/growl your lungs off verses and harmonic well-sung choruses. When that is done on this album, it is done very well, as it is done on the track “Say Goodbye” and “Your Shirt Would Look Better With a Columbian Neck-tie”.

As far as the other aspects of this album go, the production is very crisp. Everything is balanced perfectly to the point that it is almost too clean of a listen. To fault them for that, however, would be petty.

Overall, this album likely won’t be placed in the pantheon of all time great metal discs, but if you want an album that will keep your head banging from start to finish, this album is surely for you.
