News, Spoilers

Thanks to Aaron Cameron for sending in the following…

Well, since I *was* there and all…

Legit sellout at the “ipayone Center” (f/k/a San Diego Sports Arena)

Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore beat two short, juiced-up Japanese guys in the dark match opener.

Recap of Batista/Undertaker vs. Cena/Michaels at No Way Out

Batista then comes out to cut a promo on UT. Weird segment as Batista got a 60/40 positive crowd reaction, but it seemed like his script was geared in anticipation of a more negative response. Anyways, after No Way Out, he and UT are now “even”.

Rey Mysterio Moment #1: His World Championship victory at last year’s Wrestlemania.

Matt Hardy and London & Kendrick def. Joey Mercury and Deuce & Domino – I fear for the future of this country as Hardy was just insanely over. Finish came when Mercury v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y removed his nose guard in an attempt to use it as an international object. He missed, Hardy pinned him…3 count.

Kristal interviews Vickie Guerrero. The grieving widow has a big grin on her face, drops another cryptic hint, then hugs Kristal. Yep.

Rey Mysterio Moment #2: Rey and Eddie win the tag team titles.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Scotty 2 Hotty – Shockingly bad match as Chavo was gassed about three minutes into it. He went to a a pair of long restholds before finishing off Scotty with the ol’ foot on the ropes ploy. And, there was a “worm”. Ugh.

King Booker vs. Kane (Money in the Bank Qualifying Match) – This one was no DQ, falls count anywhere. Quite the decent little contest as Booker got a good amount of offense in. Kane was about to chokeslam His Majesty outside the ring, when The Great Khali laid out Kane with the worst headbutts you’ll ever see, followed by his judo chop finisher. For good measure, Khali throws Kane through the ringside barrier. Booker covers for the 1-2-3 and heads to Wrestlemania.

Backstage, the King and Queen celebrate, when Khali enters the scene. He silently shakes Booker’s hand and walks away.

Boogeyman & Lil’ Boogeyman vs. Finlay & Lil’ Bastard – Best bad match I’ve seen in awhile. Bastard is nowhere to be found until the end as he pinned (the Big) Boogeyman with a DDT after a shillelagh shot from Finlay. This was after Lil’ Boogey got about 30 seconds of uninterrupted offense against Finlay. I am not making this up.

Rey Mysterio Moment #3: Rey retires JBL.

Main Event Interview – Rey Mysterio returns to San Diego. Just a ginormous pop for the guy, which gets even louder when dusts off the Espanol for the crowd. Rey was really selling the knee surgery, complete with cane and exaggerated limp.

“I be back and better than ever…”, etc goes on for a few minutes before Mr. McMahon ends the lovefest.

Vince gets some shots in at Rey’s height (even pats him on the head and calls him “cute”). Vince then gets on his knees to see eye-to-eye with Rey and asks him who’ll win the “Battle of the Billionaires”.

Rey calls Vince a “loser”. So, Vince strikes back with a boring little promo against Trump. He then brings out Umaga and gives Rey another chance to answer correctly.

Before Rey can say a word, Vince whacks Rey with his own cane and lets Umaga squish him like a bug. Rey-Rey does the stretcher job and that’s where the taping ends.

In a post-show dark match, Batista beat Kennedy to retain the World Title, with Undertaker coming to the ring and chokeslamming Batista to end the evening’s festivities.
