TV Babies: Gilmore Girls, Episode 7-15

Shows

Let’s be honest, folks: Not a lot happened last night. And you could tell from the pre-theme song sequence where Lorelai takes Rory for a ride to tell her about breaking up with dad, and they run out of gas. It was definitely one of those episodes where you could drift off towards the kitchen, or check your e-mail quick – and not miss much. That’s not to say it was bad, and they did set some things up nicely. So here’s what happened, and what I think it means…

Lorelai is stalling, partially due to Richard’s condition and partially due to her pride, from telling her parents about the collapse of her marriage. She finally gets it out in the open to Emily, over scotch and vodka, while helping her organize Richard’s business affairs. Emily doesn’t have much to say on the subject at first, even praising Lorelai’s independance. But the morning after, once the alcohol wears off, Emily’s back to her old self.

Rory has taken the news of her parents like a grownup: I kind of think she saw it coming. She’s focusing on Logan’s 25th birthday instead (did we know he was that old?). Apparently, birthday celebrations weren’t a Huntzberger strong-suit – so Rory’s going to make sure this one’s memorable. And it will be, just probably not in the way she intended. Her plans get changed when Mr. Huntzberger invites them to dinner to celebrate. All’s well until Logan leaves the table to make a call. Mitchum wastes little time: praising Rory for leading him down the right path. And if they stick together, they can keep Logan on the right path. Logan doesn’t seem too concerned with this news. What he does seem quite concerned with is news that his online company’s a bust. I’m betting this will be a big test for Logan, and he just might fall off that path after all…

Luke, meanwhile, has houseguests: Liz, T.J. and baby make three. Sweet people to be sure, but all I could think was god help Luke – in that small apartment above the diner. Liz and T.J. sure were dropping some hints on changes he could make to his place. A subtle way of saying it’s time for Luke to get a new place.

Next week: After getting only a small dose Stars Hollow in this story, everyone’s coming out for Lane’s baby shower. Should be quite an event…
