Random Reality – American Idol – Top 12 Women

Shows

Last night the final 12 guys performed. They were all pretty nervous and it showed as only 2 or 3 distanced themselves from the rest. Tonight the girls went. Would they be as nervous as the guys? Who would break away from the pack, if anyone? Here is what went down, along with my thoughts..

**NOTE** I’m writing this as I watch it, so some of the song names will be missing since I can’t look them up until later**

Stephanie Edwards was first out of the box. Don’t know the song, and don’t really like the song. (“How Come You Don’t Call Me” by Alicia Keys. Eva Avila knocked this out of the park on CanIdol. Stephanie, by comparison, dribbled one back to the mound – Kevin) (It was good, I guess, but weird. The ending was ten times better than the beginning. Randy liked it, but it was pitchy. Simon said it was “a million times better” than last night’s performances. Paula apparently thinks that being star = getting on your knees. That’s another story, though. Simon also said it was good.

Amy Krebs sang “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Randy called it “too safe and boring”. I agree with Randy and so does Paula. A little too boring, but she didn’t sing it that bad. She’s better than that song. Simon says she has a personality of a candle. She is not memorable.

Leslie Hunt was next. She sang “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin. Arrgh, I don’t like that song. She wasn’t that bad, though. Not very memorable. Randy thought it was “too big of a song” for her. Paula thought it was good. Simon says she was “out of her comfort zone”.

Sabrina Sloan sang “No Good Liar”? That was pretty good. Best of the night so far. Randy liked it a lot. He says she is the one to beat. Paula claps and that’s about it. Simon thinks she could win and calls it the best so far.

Antonella Barba sung “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. That wasn’t very good at all. She has the looks, but that’s it. Wrong song choice. Randy thought it sucked as well. Paula is “Little Miss Sunshine” again. When Paula thinks a girl sucks, she tells them that they are beautiful. Simon thought it didn’t work. “Song was too big for her”. He thought it seriously hurt her chances of staying another week. Definitely agree there.

Jordin Sparks was next. She sang “Turn Back Around”. Yes, I really need help with these songs. She is only 17. She was good. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. Randy said the song “wasn’t big enough for her”. Simon says she has changed from “sweet” into a surprise winner, if she pushes herself.

Nicole Tranquillo sang a Chaka Khan song. This was the weirdest song ever. I didn’t like it at all. I couldn’t even make out a single word she was saying. Randy didn’t get that all. Paula is drunk and loved it. Simon brings some “sanity” back to this. He says that she was “overdid” that song. She is definitely better than that song.

Haley Scarnato is up now. She is my #1 Hottie Hott Girl this year. Too bad she is just an okay singer. She sang “All Coming Back to Me” by Celene Dion. Randy thought it just “alright”. Good song choice, but she didn’t do anything “special” with it. I’ll pass on Paula as she says the same thing. Actually, she wanted to hear a different song from her. Simon thought she sounded 40 years old. He wants her to sound “younger”. She has a good voice, though.

Melinda Doolittle used to be a backup singer for various people. She shines here. Not the best of the night, but great. The song was “Since You’ve Been Gone”, but not the Kelly Clarkson song. Randy loved it. “Blew it out the box” actually says Randy. “Da Bomb!” Paula calls her a “firecracker and a frontrunner”. Simon calls her an incredible singer and hopes she does well.

Alaina Alexander sings “So Special”. It was okay, but could have been better. That’s too bad as she’s hott and I want to see her stick around for a bit. Randy didn’t like it. Randy is “sighing” a lot during this episode. Paula thought she didn’t “make it her own”. It was “safe”. Simon and Ryan get into. Ryan is obviously stretching out the time, but Simon thinks he is flirting with Alaina.

Gina Glocksen sang “All By Myself” by Celene Dion. She did pretty good I thought. It’s a big song, but she kept pace with it. Although, when I hear the parts of the song that just yell out on purpose, I cringe. I hate those parts, but they have to be in there. Randy liked it a lot. It worked out in the end. He was surprised by her voice. Right song says Paula. Simon didn’t think she quite nailed it, however.

Lakisha Jones brings down the house with this final song. That was fantastic, and the judges agree. Simon even go so far to say that “23 other people should fly home now”. She’s the front runner by far.

Despite the fact that the judges are PUSHING for a girl to win this year, they were better as a group. A girl will probably win and I have a good idea of who it could be. If Lakisha continues to do what she did tonight, then we have another Fantasia on our hands.

I broke the girls down into 3 groups. You have the top group, which is pretty big. They did great. You have the middle group, which was okay and should be safe for another week. Then you have the bottom group were the performances were forgettable. Easily two of these girls will be going home this week. Here is my breakdown…

My Standings

(A-STUDENTS)
1. Lakisha Jones
2. Sabrina Sloan
3. Gina Glocksen
4. Melinda Doolittle
5. Stephanie Edwards

(C-STUDENTS)
6. Haley Scarnato
7. Jordin Sparks
8. Alaina Alexander

(F-STUDENTS)
9. Leslie Hunt
10. Amy Krebs
11. Antonella Barba
12. Nicole Tranquillo

I predict that Nicole and Amy will go home this week. Antonella should go home, but she will probably last another week based on looks. Leslie could replace either Nicole or Amy, though. That wouldn’t surprise me one bit. I’m just praying that Haley and Alaina did enough to stick around for a few weeks. Find out who goes home tomorrow (Thursday) night!
