More Reasons Why Being Deaf Sucks/Rocks – Remaking Me Sick

Columns

Ok, so I was at work over the weekend and they had the radio on in the back. I pretty much zoned it out until I realized it was a remake of a song that, unfortunately, I was familiar with.

“Wait, someone actually remade this song?” I remarked to no one in particular.

And then I got a queasy feeling in my stomach. It wasn’t that those religious nutjobs (be they evangelicals or Islamic radicals) were right, but rather that maybe they had a point? I mean if this isn’t an example that there’s something seriously wrong with this nation I don’t know what is.

Oh, the song I’m talking about? Check it out for yourself.

I mean honestly, what kind of sick mind would even think about remaking that song? It’s like someone reheating a meal that gave everyone food poisoning; it made everyone sick the first time, it does not need another go-round.

Am I alone in thinking that this song is evidence that American culture is in dire need of a change? And the idea that a new generation is being exposed to such a heinous song is just enough to give me nightmares. Yeah, global warming is a big issue, but keeping stuff like this away from future generations is just as big. My best friend has a daughter and she shouldn’t have to deal with stuff like this.

And what’s up with the video? The stilted dance moves. The complete lack a budget. The “barely registers as a cameo” from Heroes’ Hiro. It makes my soul weep just to think about it.

Oh hell, since you put up with my rambling here’s the original. I can’t deny you guys anything!
