TiVo Central – Grey's Anatomy – Episode 3-17

Shows

Meredith is dead, but that doesn’t stop the other doctors from trying to bring her back to life. Although, with all of the fun that Meredith seems to be having while she is dead, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to come back to life either. Those “afterlife-in-limo” scenes were quite funny with Denny, that FBI agent played by Kyle Chandler, some patient that Meredith couldn’t save after being impaled by a pole, her mother’s nurse, and of course DOG.

Cristina is the first one to break as she can’t deal with Meredith’s situation. She goes to the bar, after buying lots of stuff at the “Dollar Store”, to drown out her pain. In the end, though, she comes back to see Meredith again.

Izzie is the optimistic one. She thinks Meredith will be just fine. George is pestimistic after his father’s death. He doesn’t think things will work out. Izzie finally tells Callie off. Callie thinks that since she is married to George now, she is apart of the group now. She knows Meredith just as much as George and Izzie do now. Izzie says that’s not true at all, though. Of course, George has turned dumb since his father’s death and sides with Callie.

Alex and Addison tend to other patients, most importantly the Jane Doe from the ferry accident. Alex seems to be interesting in the Jane Doe that Addison. That probably works out for the best, since Addison makes a deal with Mark. She tells Mark that if he can go 60 days without having sex with anyone, then she will give them another chance at a “real” relationship. I don’t like that all. It should be Addison and Alex and none of this other nonsense.

Meanwhile, Meredith’s mom is not doing so well herself. Derek comes and blames her for Meredith’s death situation. She told Meredith that she was just ordinary, and was not special. Of course, then things take a turn for the worse. Ellis starts to flatline and dies, just as Meredith’s temperature starts to come back up.

As we have learned in other shows, before someone can come back to reality, they must learn something in an “alternate” universe, or in this case the “afterlife”. That something for Meredith is her mom and issues with her. She must make up with her mom before she can come back from the dead. She does just that as Meredith’s mom dies and enters the fun “afterlife” party with Meredith and the others.

Now that they have made up, it’s time for Meredith to come back to life. She learns that death would be the easy way out of all her problems. Suicide wouldn’t be the best thing for the people around her. In fact, it would destroy them all. So Meredith comes back to life with Cristina looking on.

One last thing to note about the ending that I haven’t mentioned earlier. Denny says that he has been watching over Izzie from the dead. Sometimes he thinks that she can hear him or knows that he is there. In the end, Izzie in the “real” world and Denny in the “afterlife” world bump into each other. Izzie doesn’t see him, but she “feels” him. What that means for the future, I don’t know. But rumors are out there that we may see more of “Denny” in the future. We shall see, though.

On paper this looks like a dumb idea for a storyline. The “afterlife-in-limbo” universe. But it worked because of the people that were there, minus Meredith. Meredith was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. In the end, it worked. Although, I didn’t really like Cristina being the only one there to help Meredith, at least she is not doing something for herself. Cristina is actually helping someone else for a change. While this episode was pretty good, it wasn’t the best of the season. It was actually probably the worst episode of this three episode story arc. It mainly closed out some stories and opened up doors for future things. That’s all it really needed to do anyways.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
