Looking Ahead – 27th February 2007

Welcome to Looking Ahead. Sorry for missing last week, things happen and you deal with them in the order of importance, and unfortunately this column go the wrong end of the deal.

Oh, and much like Burnside, I too have the man-flu, so don’t make too much of my ramblings today. Not like you do anyway, but still…

WRESTLEMANIA 23

World Heavyweight Championship
Batista vs. The Undertaker

Yawn. I’ve lost all interest in this feud, even with a sort-of Batista heel turn leading up to it. At least Taker will win and get one last run with the belt before all is said and done. Hopefully. If Batista wins… it doesn’t bare thinking about. The streak should be broken for no-one.

WWE World Championship
John Cena vs. HBK

Now THIS is something I’m looking forward to, good old HBK vs. John Cena. This program has been played out really well so far, and it’ll be interesting to see when, or IF Shawn Michaels turn’s on Cena. I’m actually glad that nobody’s turned heel yet, and hope they don’t, as it’s refreshing to see a high-profile face vs. face match.

Battle of the Billionaires
Lashley w/ Donald Trump vs. Umaga w/ Vince McMahon

Umaga’s had a directionless past couple of weeks, but now everything’s back on track. His feud with Cena was great, but he needs to stay in the spotlight for longer, otherwise I think he’ll get dragged down to the midcard. It’s nice to see him holding the IC title, but then again I’d like to see the IC title be defended on the card. Same goes for the ECW World Title. Lashley is slowly getting awesome, and as long as the agent for this match is Finlay, then we can expect some hard-hitting, stiff-as-f*ck action.

Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Edge vs. Jeff Hardy vs. King Booker vs. CM Punk vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ?

Really disappointed that Shelton didn’t qualify, but what can you do? I’d have kept him in and gone with the Hardyz vs. MNM match, as it just seems like a good way to end the feud with a bang. You could have had an inter-brand four way tag match to get another two teams a spot on the card. Kendrick & London and Cryme Tyme perhaps?

Rumors and the like…

According to reports here on IP, Mr Kennedy is rumoured to be competing in a Money In The Bank qualifying match at the Smackdown/ECW Tapings tonight. No word on who he’ll be up against, but my bet is against either the Sandman (with interferenec from the New Breed) on ECW, or on Smackdown possibly against MVP or Kane. Either way, he’ll end up winning the qualifier and probably the MITB match too.

Steve Austin has also making the rumour mill recently with whisperings that he’ll be the Special Guest Referee for the “Battle of the Billionaires” match at this year’s Mania. Good call in my opinion, as I’m sure it might pop a buyrate or two and it’ll also serve as a good, high profile way to get his new movie (which looks pretty decent btw) some promotion.

The ECW New Breed vs. The Originals match that’s probably going to happen is a good way to cram as many people on the card as possible, and to also give some of the spotlight and attention to the new guys like Monty Brown, sorry, Marcus Cor Von.

The Great Khali vs. Kane is also a match that’s making the rounds in the WWE Offices, and personally… I’m not that arsed about it.

Melina vs. Ashley Masarro is a lock as far as I’m concerned as Ashley’s in Playboy and Melina’s the Women’s champ, so it’s good publicity for both parties. I think that the angle is on it’s last legs though, as it seems we get a “Playboy” match every sodding WrestleMania. Ah well. Melina will win.

The Last Bit…

Fall Out Boy’s new album is the shit, go download then buy that asap.

Just a quick reminder to those of you who may not know, Alex Lucard’s Live journal got closed down so he’s got his own site at alexanderlucard.com. As the guy who hired me for the Culture section of IPv2, I owe him a lot.

Go check out Lostprophet’s new video for the song 4am Forever, which is kicking about on YouTube somewhere.

Do NOT check out Avril Lavignes new video/song… This week’s BIG BAG OF WANK AWARD WINNER.

That’ll be all.
