~ Saints’ veteran WR Joe Horn met with team officials today at the training facility to discuss his future with the team. A source originally announced that nothing had been said by either party but that Horn had cleaned out his locker. It has since become official that the Saints have granted Horn’s release after he asked for it.
~ The Steelers have released one of their most popular and well-known players LB Joey Porter. RB Verron Hayes was also released in cost cutting measures that got the team under the salary cap.
~ The Broncos acquired Lions’ CB Dre’ Bly in a trade that will send RB Tatum Bell, OT george Foster, a what is believed to be a 5th-round draft pick to Detroit.
~ There’s a rumor going around that WR Brandon Stokley will be released by the Colts making him a free agent.
~ Chargers’ FB Lorenzo Neal will stay with the team after signing a 3-year $5.1 million deal making him the highest paid FB in the league.
~ Multiple pro-bowl FB Mike Alstott will not retire as rumored but will be back for a 12th season with the Bucs as he signed a 1-year deal worth around 1.5 million.
~ Bears’ coach Lovie Smith finally got the extension he expected as the Super Bowl runner-up signed him to a 4-ear deal worth $22 million.
ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli thought it’d be a good idea to rank the top 30 free agents who are testing the open waters as of tonight and could end up elsewhere next season.
