Inside the Final Inside the UFC

You know what sucks? When you’re at the gym, and there’s a guy working out with his girlfriend, and she’s really hot, and he’s really bigger than you, and he looks like the “are you lookin’ at my chick” type, and you can’t stop looking because she’s hot (like I said) and she’s on the machine right next to you and every time she bends over you can see her underpants and the tattoo on the small of her back. Yeah, I hate that.

Anyhow, there’s a whole lotta UFC to cover this week, but I just wanted to answer two questions that I had people asking. Yes, I used to be called “Freakboy” many moons ago. No, I don’t really care aboot wrestling anymore. Unlike most dorks who complain aboot how much wrestling sucks, yet can’t stop talking aboot it…I just stopped. There comes a point where you have to realize that Triple H refusing to job to people simply doesn’t matter, and if you think it does…that’s just really sad.

That said…

INSIDE THE UFC – MARCH 1st
We had plugs for upcoming shows out the yin yang, a Matt Hughes interview, “Rampage” Jackson: Cribs, and a few witty one liners from Joe Rogan. Let’s get it on.

UFC 68: THE UPRISNG
As much as it may surprise you, what with the show being this Saturday, they ran down the card:

Tim Sylvia vs. Randy Couture – I can’t see Couture winning this, and it’s a shame because I’m not that big of a Tim Sylvia fan. It may go the distance, but I think Sylvia will be holding on to the title.
Matt Hughes vs. Chris Lytle – Hughes is going to wreck him. If it goes more than one round, I’ll be shocked.
Rich Franklin vs. Jason MacDonald – MacDonald has proved he ain’t no joke, but I can’t imagine Franklin losing his first match back after his loss to Anderson Silva. It may go the full three rounds, but I’ll still take Franklin.
Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Jason Lambert – Unlike Sobral, Lambert has yet to have a shot at the title. All things being equal, I think that makes him the better fighter.
Martin Kampmann vs. Drew McFedries – I’m not familiar with either fighter, but Kampmann has the better record so I’ll go with him.

COUNTDOWN TO UFC 68
They plugged Spike’s “Countdown to UFC 68” special, which will premiere tonight at 11:00 (and reviewed by your humble narrator tomorrow morning sometime). The “Countdown” specials are always excellent. I’m always interested in seeing how the different fighters train, and if you aren’t hyped for the PPV yet you will be after watching “Countdown.”

OTHER UPCOMING UFC EVENTS
Ultimate Fight Night 9 (April 5th) – Joe Stevenson vs. Melvin Guillard, Kenny Florian vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima (rumored), Antoni Hardonk vs. Frank Mir, Drew Fickett vs. Keita Nakamura

MATT HUGHES
They recapped his career, from when he first won the welterweight title from Carlos Newton to when he lost it last November to Georges St. Pierre. Then came the smack talking, with Hughes saying Chris Lytle doesn’t have much of a psychological game. Lytle countered by saying he ain’t gonna be no one’s punk bitch; anyone’s stepping stone. The one thing they both agree on is that neither of them can afford to lose this match.

QUINTON “RAMPAGE” JACKSON
Joe Rogan spent the day hanging out around Hollywood with Rampage. We see Jackson’s big as monster truck, trained at Legends gym, had lunch at Popeye’s (Rampage treated), and just horsed around. They even bumped into Killah Priest from the Wu-Tang Clan. It wasn’t all that of an informative piece, but you could see that they are trying to sell Quinton as the “clown prince” of MMA.

PLAYING FAVORITES
All the fighters let us known what some of their favorite fights, knockouts, and/or UFC moments were:

Keith Jardine – Rashad Evans knocking out Sean Salmon

Rich Franklin – Yeah, what he said.

UFC UNLEASHED – WELL, UM…
*There was no UFC Unleashed last night, just like there was no Inside the UFC the Thursday night before that, just like there was no UFC Unleashed on the Thursday night before that. Now I just read that Inside the UFC is on hiatus, so there’s no show next week. Who knows what the hell I’ll have to write aboot next?

But since I have your attention, there’s was one really interesting rumour this week. Apparently there is talk of a Chuck Liddell vs. Cro Cop fight later this year, sometime after Cro Cop beats the winner of this Saturday’s Tim Sylvia vs. Randy Couture fight.

It makes sense. Once Liddell gets Rampage Jackson out of his system (May? September?), he will have decimated the light heavyweight division. Not to mention, he’s pretty much a heavyweight who just quits drinking for a few days to make weight for a light heavyweight title defense in the first place. Here’s how I see it:

– Chuck Liddell gets past Rampage. After the win, he relinquishes the title to go up a weight class.

– Around August, Cro Cop beats whoever for the heavyweight title. On the same show, Liddell has his first fight at heavyweight.

– At the December PPV, we have Cro Cop vs. Liddell for the Heavyweight Title. Also on the card, we have a fight between Michael Bisping and Rashad Evans (if they are both still undefeated at the time) to fill the vacant light heavyweight title.

What says you? I’m still figuring out all the bells and whistles with the publishing system here at iFights, but there should be a spot below to post comments. Thoughts on “The Uprising?” Thoughts on Liddell vs. Cro Cop? Thoughts on your favourite fight? Let a brother know.
