In The Huddle – NFL Update

~ The Lions have acquired Bucs’ DE Dewayne White who signed a 5-year deal worth $29 million with $13 million guaranteed. White is reunited with Lions’ coach Rod Marinelli who used to be the defensive line coach for Tampa Bay.

~ One of the prized free agents this offseason is Cardinals’ OL Leonard Davis who is leaving to join the Cowboys. Financial terms were not yet disclosed but they are said to exceed what some other lineman have received so far of 7 years for $49 million.

~ Veteran WR Dennis Northcutt will join the Jaguars with a 5-year, $17 million deal with a $4.5 million signing bonus. Northcutt has spent the first six seasons of his career with the Browns.

~ The Bucs signed Jets’ FB B.J. Askew. Terms of the deal were not yet revealed.

~ The Texans‘ leading WR since being drafted by the team in 2003 is looking at possibly staying with the team for his entire career. The team signed him to a 6-year extension worth $60 million with $15 million guaranteed.

The Texans also spruced up their backfield on Sunday with the signing of longtime Packers’ RB Ahman Green. Green’s deal is a 4-year, $23 million with $6-7 million in guarantees. This will help considering that the Texans starting RB Domanick Williams (formerly Davis) missed all of last season with a knee injury.

~ Bucs‘ newly acquired QB Jake Plummer will not be competing for the starting job come next season as he has officially announced his retirement. This will also officially take away the 2008 conditional draft pick the Broncos received in his trade.

Rumors:

~ RB Willis McGahee is drawing interest from more teams as the days go on as he is now being looked at by Baltimore, Denver, and New York Giants.

~ Corey Dillon to be a J-E-T?

~ The race for LB Joey Porter’s services has heated up now since as many as six teams are chasing him.
