5oz of Fury: Tito Ortiz vs. Dana White…FINALLY!

Columns, News

When Tito Ortiz signed his new contract with the UFC, there were rumors that part of the deal included a boxing match against UFC President Dana White. We can finally put the rumors to rest because, as per MMAWeekly.com, White officially received his professional boxing license from the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday morning. Here are the specifics:

  • The fight is going to take place on March 24th.
  • It’ll be three three minute rounds.
  • There are plans to broadcast it (not live) on UFC.com
  • Spike TV is planning a special to document Ortiz and White’s training
  • The majority of the financial proceeds will be going to charity.
  • My favorite part of the article is a quote by UFC Chief Operating Officer Kirk Hendrick, “This is not WWE wrestling. This is not Vince McMahon getting in the ring. We’re taking this seriously.” So I guess that means no Tito Ortiz kiss my ass club, and no turning an Ultimate Fight Night into “Mr. White Appreciation Night.” Which is good because if we here at iFights ever started to complain about our product as much as the wrestling staff whines about theirs, that would suck.

After his fight against White, Tito Ortiz’s next opponent is rumored to be “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine (fresh off a victory against Forrest Griffin) at UFC 71. Also rumored for that card is Chris Leben vs. Kalib Starnes, Karo Parisyan vs. Josh Burkman, and the much ballyhooed Chuck Liddell/Rampage Jackson match.

So…who do you think is going to win? Does Dana White have a “punchers chance,” or is Ortiz going to murderize him?
