In Hindsight: Heroes 1-18

Shows

OK, so Global television, in their infinite wisdom, decided to show a Monday block of Prison Break/24/Black Donnellys, pushing Heroes to Sunday nights up against Desperate Housewives, meaning that up here in Canada, we get the show a day early. And you’d think that this would be great, except for one thing – Global shows Heroes in full screen. They also show about 20 million promos for Falcon Beach and ET Canada, which also annoys me. I suppose I should just be glad that they don’t insert virtual ads into the show, like they do with the NFL.

Oh great, Jessica’s back. As this storyline drags on, we see that now Niki is the one who can do things that Jessica is unaware of. She’s created suspicion with D.L., and warned Nathan about Linderman. Who we finally get to see… and it’s the Guy Who Killed Captain Kirk.

(Yes, I know Malcolm McDowell has done tons of other stuff, but its fun noting the Star Trek connections. Speaking of which, McDowell is also the uncle of Alexander Siddig a.k.a. Doctor Bashir.)

OK, so Linderman promises Nathan with more than just power – he promises information, and given that the FBI guys Nathan was playing mole for are now rather dead, you’d figure that Nathan’s gonna take the deal.

Catching up with our other Vegas story, Hiro finally recovers the sword with the help of Ando, who I hope only stole a security outfit. Because if not, then Linderman really needs to keep track of whom the casino is hiring, or at least revise the screening process. I mean, I figured him to be a bit more Terry Benedict than Sam Marquez. Maybe I’m wrong.

Long story short, Hiro and Ando escape by teleporting into the future, onto a very familiar rooftop, and things don’t look good for New York.

We got a bit of Claire and the Haitian, and found out who he’s actually working for. I have to say that the reveal of Mrs. Petrelli as his employer was surprising to me. I don’t know whether this was the original plan or not, but it makes sense to have her as a foil for Linderman and whoever’s in charge of Primatech. It just doesn’t make perfect sense.

We get to see Candice’s power in action (illusions), and of course that foreshadowed trouble for H.R.G. back in Texas. That, at least, wasn’t all that surprising. She’s a cold one, though, as shown when she taunted Isaac.

And finally, Mohinder may have discovered a way to recreate the “list”, using Sylar’s stem cells. But of course, he couldn’t just kill Sylar and take his stem cells. Sylar is right – Mohinder is truly his father’s son, getting too wrapped up in his work to notice Sylar turning off the IV drip. And he pays for it… perhaps fatally.

And this is where Peter comes in, and we get the battle we’ve been waiting for – the serial killer power thief and the naïve power mimic. Mind you, we have to wait SEVEN FREAKING WEEKS for that battle, but it’s seven weeks that will hopefully be worth the wait, as the Heroes try to save the world.
