Looking Ahead – March 13, 2007

3….

Hi there folks, welcome to the 3rd to last edition of the “weekly” version. I say “weekly”, but to be honest I don’t think I’ve done more than two weeks in a row since last year. Whups. I don’t mean to, it’s just that I work crazy-ass hours and shifts, so sometimes I get time to write and sometimes I don’t.

If you still want your fill of Wallace though, don’t worry! I’m going to be doing a special “Looking Ahead” the day before every WWE Pay Per View, and I’m now in charge of the WWE Roundtables.

Right then…

WRESTLEMANIA 23

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
– John Cena © vs Shawn Michaels

I’m loving the build-up to this match. They’ve taken a run-of-the-mill angle and turned it into a different direction, the result of which is fresh and intruiging. To add to that, both HBK and Cena have been amazing on the mic, suberbly playing of the crowd as well as each other. It’s good to see that WWE can still pull off great feuds when the time comes.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
– Batista © vs The Undertaker

I hope this match doesn’t end Wrestlemania, because even though I think both guys will up their game, I’d prefer to see Cena-Michaels cap off the PPV as it will be a more steller match in my opinion. Looking through the eyes of a booker though, if they choose to end Undertaker’s winning streak, the final match on the card is the place to do it. Expect lots of near-falls from Batista as they try to build some suspense for us to get us on the edge of our seats and see if Undertaker will lay down for DAVE.

BATTLE OF THE BILLIONAIRES – DONALD TRUMP OR MR MCMAHON WILL HAVE THEIR HEAD SHAVED
(SPECIAL REFEREE “STONE COLD” STEVE AUSTIN)

– ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley (w/Donald Trump) vs Umaga (w/Mr McMahon & Armando Alejandro Estrada)

I love this match. Lashley has my vote for the most improved wrestler since this time last year, and Umaga is a close second or third. Both guys are using the stiff, brawler style that I love when used correctly, and both guys are working hard at their craft. They are also coming off huge pushes, and are set to be Main Event stars for years to come. The best thing I like about it though is that it’s FRESH, and if they choose to it can carry over into ECW and last a hell of a long time, possibly spanning a good 7/8 months.

MONEY IN THE BANK LADDER MATCH
– Edge vs Randy Orton vs King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell) vs CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy vs Mr Kennedy vs Finlay

The match I think every wrestling fan is waiting for. You’ve got a brewing rivalry between Edge and Orton (which should provide some interesting moments during the match as they tease a feud), you have the comedy gold that is King Booker (who will keep the match from turning into a spot fest, along with Finlay), CM Punk is there to look awesome and show his potential, The Hardy’s are in to be spot monkeys, Kennedy is there to be put over (pretty sure he’ll win) and Finlay will provide some tough, in your face brawling. Pure magic.

ECW ORIGINALS VS THE NEW BREED
– Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu & The Sandman vs Elijah Burke, Matt Striker, Marcus Cor Von and Kevin Thorn

Great way to get guys on the card, but I’ve a feeling unless it’s a hardcore match, then it’ll be lackluster. Good to see guys like Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu and the New Breed with a spot on the Wrestlemania card too.

WWE WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH
– Melina © vs Ashley Massaro

Ooooo…. piss break match. It’ll be interesting to see whether Melina can carry Ashley to a decent match, but other than a couple of run-ins from Micke James and Victoria… yawn.

Rumors and the like…

I think there’s only the Kane vs. Khali and Benoit vs. MVP match to be announced. I’d say that Kendrick & London should have a spot on the card to defend the tag titles, but I’m not holding my breath.

The Last Bit…

It’s apparently national no-smoking day tomorrow/today (depending on when you read this) in the U.K. GOOD. Smoking is for retards… and cowboys apparently:

Peace.
