March 10, 2007 – Davis Arena

MATCHES:

  • JAKE HAGER VS. “9-FINGERS” DEWEY
  • TUG-OF-WAR CONTEST – DANIEL RODIMER VS. ATLAS DA BONE
  • JAMIN OLIVENCIA VS. TOMASSO
  • OVW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: “THE RIPPER” PAUL BURCHALL (Champ) VS. LITTLE GUIDO
  • OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLES NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS – FATAL-FOUR WAY ELIMINATION MATCH: BELGUIM BRAWLER & NICK SINN VS. STEVE LEWINGTON & CHET THE JETT VS. OX & HAMMER VS. GOTHIC MAYHEM (PAT BUCK & JOHNNY PUNCH W/RONI & MELODY)

The show started off with Maryse interviewing WWE/ECW Superstar Little Guido. Or at least she would interview him if he didn’t spend so much time trying to get her to pronounce his name the way he liked it. After they finally got that settled, Guido said he was there to check out OVW after all the great things he had heard about the place. He would have gone on to talk a bit more about his reasons for being there, but he was interrupted by OVW Heavyweight Champ Paul “The Ripper” Burchall. Burchall didn’t take kindly to Guido asking him who he was and told him to beat it as Guido was eating up his camera-time. Looking at the Title, Guido thought it would make a nice addition to his resume and challenge The Ripper to a match that night. Burchall agreed, although as Guido walked away Burchall seemed to wonder if maybe the Title was making him a target just like it had Chet the Jett before him.

After Dean and Kenny went through the matches for the show, the camera cut to the ring where OVW Television Title Champ Mike Kruel appeared in the ring with Vladimir Kosolov behind him and Milena dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Kruel discussed his defense of the country by defeating Boris Alexiev last week “one on one” last week, although his “one” in the match was actually Vladimir Kosolov and not himself. To celebrate, he was going to smoke a good cigar (although probably not Cuban, one would think) and gave Vladimir a bottle of vodka (like the kind you would get on a plane). After Vladimir told viewers about the things he loves about America – ending with Mike at the top of the list, of course – Kruel told the fans that Vladimir would then sing the National Anthem, “which he knows by heart!” Before Vladimir could sing a couple of verses off a sheet of paper Kruel handed him, Boris Alexiev jumped into the ring and began showing Vladimir and Mike what bombs bursting in mid-air would probably feel like!

Struggling to get Vladimir into the position for the standing armbar, Boris could not stop Kruel from slamming the title hard into his head. As Boris dropped unconscious to the mat, Kruel rolled him over and put him into a hold while Milena slapped Boris’s hand on the mat, making him “tap-out!”

JAKE HAGER VS. “9-FINGERS” DEWEY
REF: Goose Mahoney

OVW Television Viewers may not instantly recognize “9-Fingers”, but the reaction of the fans at Davis Arena clearly showed that they were somewhat familiar with his work! Whether that meant the fans were happy or upset to see him is another thing, however! And he proved that point readily by slugging Jake after being taken down twice for pin-attempts early in the match.

Jake didn’t take kindly to the knuckle-sandwich and clotheslined and elbowed Dewey before attempting to slam him through the mat in the middle of the ring! With Dewey staggering, Jake cupped up a leg and twisted around to throw Dewey right into a pin and the match was over with Jake Hager as the winner!

TUG-OF-WAR CONTEST
DANIEL RODIMER VS. ATLAS DA BONE

REF: Nick Andrews

Rodimer came into the event doing much like he did the previous week for the arm-wrestling competition, dropping everything to loosen up just as they were about to get started! When he finally does grace everyone with his participation, Rodimer and Da Bone appear to be evenly matched as they tug on the rope in the ring. Over time, however, Da Bone began pulling the rope towards him and eventually won the event! Yet, just as the ref was raising Atlas’ arm in victory, Rodimer claimed he was a victim of an old injury and should have another chance. Atlas decides to give him “best two out of three” and they go again.

With the ref’s concentrating on the middle of the rope, Rodimer realized he could use the corner to beat Atlas the second time around, but with a final burst of strength, Da Bone yank the rope across the ring with Rodimer still attached! Rodimer insisted he had reasons for losing again and challenged DaBone to a weightlifting competition next week. Da Bone was getting tired of all Rodimer’s excuses, but agreed and they shook hands on the deal as DaBone left the ring.

Backstage, Victoria continued to work with ODB for the MISS OVW competition by teaching her to walk sassy. Putting a book on ODB’s head, Victoria asked her to walk a straight line. Chuckling at the thought, ODB said that she didn’t need to have a book on her head to walk a straight line! Tossing the book aside, she put a beer on her head and began touching her nose while walking a straight line as if she had done it several times before. As ODB walked off to get some more beer, Beth Phoenix came into the room applauding Victoria for her hard work in helping ODB get the most votes so far in the MISS OVW competition. That’s when Phoenix grabbed Victoria by the arm and told her to stop helping her or else.

A crash was suddenly heard from outside the room, leading Beth and Victoria to see what was going on. All that was found was some grassy dirt, as if someone had tracked it in from the woods somewhere.

JAMIN OLIVENCIA VS. TOMASSO
REF: Ray Ramsey

Tomasso made his OVW Television debut this week in a match against Jamin Olivencia, with the two locking up and throwing each other down to the mat for pin-attempts without ever letting loose of the lock-up! Finally, Tomasso took Jamin down for a second and the two broke off to contemplate their next moves. Jamin returned the favor of the takedown and followed that up with an elbow that got him just a quick one-count before Tomasso was back on his feet. Jamin threw him back down with a headlock, but Tomasso got back on his feet and whipped Jamin to the ropes. Jamin attempted to turn the whip into a crossbody, but was surprised when Tomasso ducked under him during the move and pulled Jamin up into a fireman’s carry for a Samoan Drop! Still it wasn’t enough to finish the match and Jamin kicked out after two counts!

Tomasso whipped Jamin hard into a corner for a two-count. After the two struggled for a bit, Tomasso repeated the move, but couldn’t build up enough momentum to really slam Jamin into the corner. Running into the corner to attack, Tomasso ended up eating Jamin’s elbow and was forced back to the mat from the blow. That gave Jamin a chance to shoot off the corner with a flying elbow that missed when Tomasso rolled out of the way at the last possible moment. Tomasso used the moment to grab Jamin from behind and hit a reverse DDT for the pin and the win!

Maryse was backstage to ask the OVW Southern Tag-Team Champs, Cody Runnels & Shawn Spears what they thought of the upcoming four-way elimination match to find a top contender for the Tag-Team Titles. Cody stated that he didn’t see any problem with the match, but he was curious about how Shawn felt about Cody having the OVW Heavyweight Title for a brief time a couple of weeks ago. Shawn said he understood that Cody saw an opportunity and ran with it and that maybe he should do the same sometime soon. Cody thought that was good and everyone seemed happy even if there was a current of tension between the two as they talked.

OVW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
“THE RIPPER” PAUL BURCHALL (Champ) VS. LITTLE GUIDO

REF: Kevin Keenan

Slowly the two men moved around the ring to start off the match until Guido dove in under The Ripper and tossed him over for a quick pin-attempt before Burchall flung Guido several feet away! Guido tried to take Burchall down, only to move to a headlock when The Ripper showed he was not going to be so easily moved. Burchall tried to work out of the hold by picking Guido up, but Guido pulled himself forward and managed to roll Burchall over and down to the mat!

Moving up from the mat, The Ripper pulled Guido to a corner and backed off, only for Guido to jump him and try for another pin-attempt. At that point, Burchall seemed to grow weary of Guido pulling him down so often and hit an atomic-drop on his opponent before throwing him down on his knee for a Gutbuster. Paul kept up the attack in a corner with some boots and knees to the gut, followed by tossing Guido into the middle of the ring and just basically trying to see if he could rip Guido’s head off!

Guido managed to hit a few elbows to Burchall’s stomach to get out of the hold and then wrapped himself around Burchall’s back to throw him back into a pin-attempt. Picking Guido up, Burchall attempted to ram him into a corner, but Guido climbed up and over Burchall, attempting to pull him down into a pin. Burchall happened to get to the ropes before Guido could do this, however, and stopped the pin-attempt while still standing over Guido. Stomping Guido in the gut, Burchall began to command the match with several attempts at pins while Guido tried to come back. After some time Guido got a good elbow in at Burchall’s head and pound away with several blocks off the ropes before hitting a ‘rana on Burchall! A running dropkick to the head by Guido sent Burchall flying backwards, but amazingly it only got Guido a two-count!

Rolling out, Burchall grabbed Guido by the legs and yanked him out to beat on him at ringside. Guido rolled back into the ring to get away from The Ripper, only for Paul to follow and get another two-count once back in. Paul then pulled Guido up for what looked to be a suplex, but instead Guido twisted himself around and dropped Burchall for another pin-attempt! Burchall threw Guido into a corner and just being punching away at Guido until finally called off by the ref! When Burchall turned back to the corner, all he was saw was Guido’s boot connecting with his gut. With Burchall bent over in pain, Guido hit the Sicilian Slice from the second rope for a two and 2/3 count!

Guido tried to keep things going with several elbows to Burchall’s head, but soon found himself pulled up on a corner turnbuckle by The Ripper. Burchall moved up on to the ropes to beat on Guido some more, only for Guido to shove him back hard to the mat. From there, Guido waited until Burchall sat up in order to connect with the front missile dropkick from the second-rope on to Burchall’s face! And yet still only a two-count on Burchall!

The two picked themselves up, with Burchall being just a little bit quicker. Grabbing Guido, Burchall threw him face-first on the ropes, followed by a vertical suplex and then the jumping neckbreaker to end the match with Burchall as the winner and still OVW Heavyweight Champ!

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLES NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS
FATAL-FOUR WAY ELIMINATION MATCH:
BELGUIM BRAWLER & NICK SINN VS. STEVE LEWINGTON & CHET THE JETT VS. OX & HAMMER VS. GOTHIC MAYHEM (PAT BUCK & JOHNNY PUNCH W/RONI & MELODY)

REF: Goose Mahoney

As the teams came out to the ring, Pat Buck stopped with Melody to strut a little in front of the camera at ringside, little realizing that Rombola was right around the corner with a guitar. Seeing Rombola bringing the guitar down just in time, Buck threw the first thing he could at Rombola, which happened to be Melody! The guitar connected with Melody’s head and exploded into pieces, sending Melody to the floor unconscious. Pat reviewed the situation by simply shrugging before running off with Rombola close behind, while Johnny and Roni tried to help the refs as they delicately moved Melody away from the area.

Steve and Chet watched from the ring in concern, which allowed the other two teams to jump them as the match began. As the Belgium Brawler and Ox shoved Lewington through the ropes, Ox saw a good thing and tossed the Brawler out in a similar manner. Meanwhile, Hammer had Sinn helping with tossing Chet out and then Hammer did the same with Sinn! Just as Hammer did that, however, Lewington returned to the ring only to find himself in a vertical suplex by Ox. Lewington broke away from Ox and went to the ropes, but came back just to find himself in a sidewalk slam by Ox for all that trouble and in a two-count.

Ox moved to the ropes to finish Lewington off, but was just close enough for Sinn to tag in and nearly get a pin before Hammer casually strolled in and booted him in the face to stop Sinn’s pin of Lewington. The Brawler tagged in off of Sinn and rolled Steve up for a quick pin-attempt. The Brawler kept up the attack and got Lewington into another pinhold, but it was stopped by Ox running in and breaking them up.

Ox and The Belgium Brawler started arguing about who should win the pin on Lewington, losing focus completely on Steve who managed to get to his own corner and tag in Chet the Jett! Chet preceded to clothesline and backdrop both Ox and the Brawler while also hitting elbows to the chest of Hammer and Sinn and then a couple of double axe handles at the two as well. Still, even with his energy, Chet could not fit off all four men at the same time and he soon found himself being kicked and stomped on by the two other teams.

At that moment, Steve Lewington jumped on the group, taking them all down at the same time. This allowed Chet and Steve to station themselves in the center of the ring and take on all comers, forcing them all from the ring except The Belgium Brawler. With Steve hitting a legsweep on The Brawler while Chet hit him with a clothesline, The Brawler went down and Chet got the pin!

As Chet began to stand up, Nick Sinn returned to the ring closed in on Chet. Steve shoved Chet out of the way just in time, but was unable to avoid a green mist that Sinn sent straight into Lewington’s face! Chet kicked Sinn out of the ring, as Ox and Hammer returned. With Steve unable to see due to the mist, Ox was able to take Chet down and get the pin, making Ox and Hammer the Number One Contenders!
