Green Hornet Film Alive Again?

For years and years there has been talk that a film version of the radio show, comic book, and sixties’ television show The Green Hornet was on its way, but time after time it failed. Most recently Kevin Smith (Clerks) had been attached to the film and was said to be very excited about it and eager to make it.

That too fell through.

Well it will happen this time as Columbia Pictures has optioned the rights to the film and it will be made by Neal H. Moritz who will produce the film under his Original Film name.

The show followed around millionaire publisher Brit Reid who took the streets at night as the masked avenger, the Green Hornet. The film had gone through multiple studios such as Universal, Sony, and Miramax but just could never get more then right off the ground. Along with the multiple studios holding its rights, there were also numerous actors in line for or rumored to have captured the lead role including Jet Li, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Wahlberg, and George Clooney.

Moritz is hoping to get some writers on the project within the next few weeks which in turn would I guess make a release date in 2008 or 2009.
