Seems that the Stephen Sommers franchise will become a trilogy. Well thanks to The Scorpion King, it will be a trilogy…plus one. And also Sommers won’t be directing this film as he’s handed the reigns over to Rob Cohen (xXx: State Of The Union).
None the less, The Mummy 3 is centered around the grown-up son of Richard (Brendan Fraser) and Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) who had fought in World War II. Ever since coming back from the war though, he’s taken an interest in history and archeolgy like his parents. This then leads to some very interesting finds including a Chinese set of mummies led by one Jet Li.
The three films in the franchise have so far raked in close to $450 million at the box office so it’s no surprise that another is being made.
The Mummy 3 is being rumored for a summer release in 2008.
