MNV Special: June Solicitations

News

BEWARE THE FUTURE’S AWESOME MIGHT

June’s several months off, but that’s not stopping me from reviewing Marvel’s releases now. If you don’t march in lockstep to my opinions, feel free to take a look at the solicitations, uncommented on, at Comic Book Resources. Just know that you will wound me deeply by doing so.

Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born #5My only reaction to this solicitation text can be, “Wha?”. I’ve read and loved the whole Saga and I grayed out about halfway through it. I can only imagine how others not into the books must have felt while reading it.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #43Now, I think there’s something off about this cover to start with (I think it’s the faces) but as I’m looking closer, I spotted something more askew than that. Look to the lower right…

What’s up with Sue’s costume? Has she always worn a belly shirt? And if so, has it always been that short? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not picking on her fashion choice, it just seems a pretty big departure for her.

UPDATE: Here’s Ultimate Sue.

Big difference, right?

Still nothing beats mainstream Sue and this suit.

Now that…that’s something.

Ultimate Spider-Man #110I fully support the Ultimate-verse and its quest to bring mind-stunning conclusions to the masses.

That’s right…mind-stunning. Because simply “stunning” ain’t enough anymore.

Sensational Spider-Man #38Can I just admit right now that I’ve been reading Sensational Spider-Man lately and really liking it? It’s true. Medina’s art is problematic to me, but Aguirre-Sacasa’s writing is very reminiscent of late 80’s/early 90’s Spidey which is the era where I first read and fell in love with the character.

Also, this cover, while simple, is eye catching.

Avengers: The Initiative #3SHOCKER ALERT! Not as dirty as what you’re thinking, but every bit as exciting.

Black Panther #29Does anyone care as little for the Marvel Zombieverse as I do? Can we please declare the zombie fad dead (hehe) and move on to a new fad? Maybe spies? I could live with a spy fad.

Daredevil #98This is another fairly simple cover that is still way eye catching.

This Djurdjevic fella has been doing some great cover work for Marvel.

Daredevil: Battlin’ Jack Murdock #1I…I don’t know. Can’t decide if I’m going to bother with this or not.

Fantastic Four #547See Black Panther #29

Immortal Iron Fist #7Whoever writes Iron Fist’s solicitation text deserves a raise. It has been consistently good and funny since the series started. I especially appreciate any text that is willing to presume my thankfulness for the issue’s existence.

World War Hulk #1Another book I’m just not sure about…speak Nexusers, should I try this?

Ghost Rider #12Ghost Rider v. Hulk?! It’s like Marvel Edge all over again!

To the five people in the audience that got that joke…you’re welcome.

(And thank you, Iron Fist solicitation text writer, for letting me steal your gag.)

Marvel Zombies/Army of Darkness #4See Fantastic Four #547

Ms. Marvel #16I never dreamed I’d say this, but…is MODOK becoming overexposed?

Mighty Avengers #4Ladies and Gentlemen, Ares!

Striving to become Marvel’s Nearly Nude Jericho!

New Avengers #31Okay, I’ll buy “No BS”, but “No hype”? You are using the phrase, “The most important last page of any Marvel comic this year!” You don’t get to pretend that’s not hype. Remember hype is not lying. Hype is advertising (or “buzz”) trying to excite you about a product. I’m pretty sure that’s the goal here.

New Warriors #1I’m weirdly excited for this despite knowing nothing about it. The man who brought us Underworld hardly fills me with hope, and yet I remain excited.

Omega Flight #3Wait…don’t we already know who the Guardian is? He’s that Collective guy, right? I’m pretty sure that Civil War: Initiative book gave that one away.

Loners #3Love, love, love the Hughes’ movie inspired covers for Loners. All those flicks were just a bit before my time, but they still hold a special place in my heart.

Does that make me a wuss?

Sub-Mariner #1So, I had no interest in this 30 seconds ago. But it is free the writers of Powerless and I really dug Powerless. So, I think I’ll upgrade it to a “Maybe?”

Thunderbolts #115Seriously…

Djurdjevic is damn good!
