Foley, Edge, Flair Updates & More

News

Mick Foley’s Hardcore Diaries, which opened at #7 on the New York Times bestseller list, is the most successful WWE book since the Ric Flair autobiography in 2004 – and the credit goes to Eric Bischoff. WWE’s books in recent years had not done all that well and fallen off the radar of most booksellers, yet they did such a good job of promoting Bischoff’s Controversy Creates Cash that it cracked the top 25 in its first week and caught most sellers out. Not wanting to underestimate demand again, coupled with Foley’s previous successes, meant that interest in the book skyrocketed compared to recent WWE efforts. This means that the Batista autobiography due out soon will no doubt also do well by proxy, regardless of quality.

Edge’s fractured jaw happened in the tag title match on the 26th February episode of Raw. He was also knocked out at one point during the match. He is expected to be fine for WrestleMania but won’t compete before then. Rumours of him taking time off are untrue as he is tied into major storylines well into the fall. Kane, on the other hand, is talking about taking a few months off soon due to knee problems.

Ric Flair vs. Carlito will not be added to the WrestleMania card. They were paired together for an eventual match but WWE wanted a longer build to it. Some wanted to speed the split up after Flair’s recent promos were so well-received, and one writer even told Flair the match was on for Mania, but it’s not going to happen. Flair was very disappointed as he knows his opportunities to compete at WrestleMania in the future are very limited.

Raw will be in Madison Square Garden on the 13th August.

On a recent interview with Between the Ropes, Jerry Lawler said that he planned to negotiate with WWE about selling the Memphis tape collection in the near future.
