Richly Deserved – The Amazing Race: All-Stars Episode 11-6

Shows

Last week, the teams headed to Mozambique. Uchenna and Joyce were the last team to arrive but found out it was a non-elimination leg. They are marked for elimination so if they don’t finish first, it will mean a 30-minute linger at the pit stop before they are checked in.

This week, they all got frustrated on standby at one time or other getting to Tanzania. They travelled by ferry to Zanzibar. The detour involved solving a puzzle or carrying 50-pound logs. The road block required throwing a rungu to break a target (a classic raised eyebrow by Phil when explaining that task).

Here’s how they finished. Why are half the pit stops at abandoned forts?.

CHARLA AND MIRNA
Yup. One more and they are TIED with Rob and Amber for most leg wins this season. All teams were put on standby in Mozambique. While they all stayed, these two went to Johannesburg well before anyone else to try to connect there. That turned out to be a great move as they amassed an enormous lead. While they were delayed at the ferry, they joined Oswald and Danny on a fun ride. They were more relaxed than we’ve ever seen them. They solved the puzzle quickly and had a lead to work with so Mirna could take more time at the road block. Once completed, they made it to the pit stop where Phil informed them they each won a catamaran. Phil then had to explain to them what a catamaran was. Any one still questioning why these two were picked for All Stars? They still have travel and social (read: pleading and begging) skills no one else here has.

And I say it again. When more relaxed, Mirna is really hot.

OSWALD AND DANNY
The boys are keeping it fun for themselves and for us. They joined four other teams getting on standby first, and that paid off when they were in the second pack getting to Tanzania. They were also quick to get to the ferry, ensuring they would join Charla and Mirna on the first boat (three-hour intervals). They even helped Charla out when she got sick on the boat. With that lead, they were able to finish the detour and road block in workmanlike fashion and live to race another day. This time, though, Phil didn’t have to run away from them.

UCHENNA AND JOYCE
Marked for elimination, they were also smart in putting themselves high enough on the standby list to make the second flight in. They got on the second ferry (joining Dustin and Kandice), and Uchenna shared his knowledge of black history with them. They chose the puzzle detour, which was right. Then Uchenna, shown in the preview frustrated with the road block, actually completed it quickly, allowing them a lead of more than the 30 minutes they had to wait on the mat before being checked in. A solid leg again, and you have to think, like in their first season, that Uchenna really appreciates the adventures in Africa.

DUSTIN AND KANDICE
They girls also got on the same flight and the second ferry. They chose the log detour. I have to give them a lot of credit for lifting those big pieces of wood but they dropped the wheelbarrow mid way. Still an easy fourth-place finish.

ERIC AND DANIELLE
What an adventure these two had. They were also on that first standby list. But after they boarded, they were told there was a mixup and that they had someone else’s seats. That meant they had to leave the plane and be put on standby. No wonder Danielle was freaking out. I’d be too. However they were put on another flight ahead of the bottom two teams so they were able to do all the necessary tasks and finish fifth comfortably. What a bad stroke of luck but they fight another day.

JOE AND BILL
Hell, part one. They decide not to go upstairs in the airport with the other teams. As a result they end up low on the standby list. And that compounds itself as they are shut out of other flights. Good thing Teri and Ian decide to do the same thing.

When they finally get to Tanzania, they are joined with Teri and Ian at the hip. Where they got their separation was at the detour, where they solved the puzzle faster by being far more organized. From there it was easy to get to the pit stop ahead of Teri and Ian.

TERI AND IAN
So pretty much, a myriad of unsuccessful standbys followed by a disorganized detour cost them. I think they were reaching a breaking point with eachother and I couldn’t blame them if they had decided to spend some time away from eachother after the race.

This is a great couple. I met them last summer when I hadn’t seen their first season. I hope I get the chance to see them again. Great couple.

Two hours next week, eh? Danielle blows up at Eric and we enter the Knights of the Round Charla.

’till
