Tonight on RAW, Umaga put his Intercontinental Championship on the line in an open challenge. Accepting the challenge was Santino Marella (real name Anthony Carelli), playing a “fan” in the Milan, Italy crowd… who is now the NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion.
Carelli was last seen on wrestling TV as part of WWE’s Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory as Russian fighter Boris Alexiev. This is the same wrestler who laughed at the Boogeyman down in OVW only to get slapped backstage by Jim Cornette, leading to Cornette’s banishment from the promotion of which he is part owner. As Alexiev, Carelli was a said to have been a pet project of Paul Heyman when Heyman was booking OVW.
