Filming has long since begun on The Dark Knight which is director Christopher Nolan’s sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins, but that doesn’t mean more actors can’t join the fun.

Eric Roberts (Heroes) has joined the cast and will play the part of a Mafia kingpin.

I don’t stop working. I’m a workaholic. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m too overexposed to ever be a superstar, so I’m happy to be a working actor every day.” said Roberts.

The Dark Knight continues the early stories of Batman as he and Commissioner Gordon join forces with new District Attorney Harvey Dent to stop a new crime force in town…The Joker.

The film already has returning actors Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman. They will be joined by newcomers to the series in Maggie Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, and Aaron Eckhart.

The film is scheduled for release in theatres on July 18, 2008.
