George Lucas and Mark Hamill are joining forces for the first time in a long time as they are bringing a little bit more of Star Wars home for fans. Only this time it will be a stop-animation spoof by way of the Seth Green and Matthew Senreich created show Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
The 30 minute special in collaboration with Lucasfilm will spoof key scenes and characters from the famous film. Lucas is going to voice an animated version of himself while Hamill will of course voice Luke Skywalker.
Many other voice talents are on board with Conan O’Brien, Malcolm McDowell, Seth McFarlane, James Van Der Beek, Donald Faison, Hulk Hogan, Robert Smigel, Joey Fatone, Abraham Benrubi, and Breckin Meyer.
Robot Chicken has run Star Wars skits in the past and they were the basis for the special. Lucas is so anxious about the special that his company is even helping with soundbits for R2-D2 and Chewbacca.
Lucasfilm’s senior director of marketing Tom Warner had this to say, “We were big fans of the work that Matt and Seth had done, so when they approached us about the idea to make a ‘Robot Chicken’ episode dedicated to ‘Star Wars,’ we were really enthusiastic about it.“
Seth Green was even very excited about being able to direct the sci-fi icon Lucas.
“ I’ve always wanted to be a part of a ‘Star Wars’ project, and I got to make one. It was really exciting, he was very shy but very playful.” said Green.
The special will start a Robot Chicken marathon on Adult Swim at 10 PM EST on June 17.
