Spider-Man 3 opened yesterday in the United States and was expected to do good, and it didn’t fail.

The web-slinger brought in $59 million domestically on opening day breaking the record of $55.8 million set by Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest last year.

The film also took in $45 million overseas on Friday after opening in many countries earlier this week. That brought Spider-Man 3‘s total to $104 globally which is also a record for single-day global earnings.

“That’s why they call him the amazing Spider-Man,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. “Just five years ago, these are numbers we thought we’d never see.”

We’ll keep bringing more numbers as the records are sure to continue to fall.
