DreamWorks and Film 4 are partnering up to bring Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Alice Sebold’s bestselling novel The Lovely Bones to the big screen. Universal, Sony, and Warner Bros. Pictures were all in contention to release the film that went to DreamWorks with a high bid of over $65 million.

Jackson wrote the script with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, whom he worked with on The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Lensing for the film will begin in October in New Zealand and Pennsylvania. Jackson is promising a release date in theatres during the fourth quarter of next year.

The film tells the story of a young 14 year old child who was brutally raped and killed. From other places, the child now watches over both her family and the one who killed her.
