Random Reality – American Idol – Final Four

Shows

I should have went with my original “Final Four” that I predicted two months ago. I would have predicted last week correctly if I went with my gut. But still I did get one right. And the “Final Four” of Lakisha, Jordin, Melinda, and Blake is still true. That’s a lot better than my NCAA March Madness Tournament Final Four predictions. Will my original predictions stay true until the end? We will find out soon enough, but right now it’s “Final Four” time!

**NOTE** I’m writing this as I watch it, so some of the song names will be missing since I can’t look them up until later**

Tonight’s guest music mentor is Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees. The theme for tonight is “Barry Gibb Songs”, of course. Everyone is singing twice this week.

Melinda Doolittle is up first to sing her first song. It was called “Love You Inside and Out”. Not a knockout performance, but still solid. The judges pretty much agree. They liked it, but they wanted something more.

Blake Lewis sang his first song next, which was “Should Be Dancing”. He did his beatbox routine and it seemed out of place this time. Randy agrees. He says it was needed and a little corny. I have to agree there. Paula thought it started shaky, but still thought it was unique. Simon thought it was terrible.

Lakisha Jones sang “Stayin’ Alive” as her first song. Better than the first two performances. Probably one of the better ones from her in the past month or so. Randy thought it was weird. She did too much with it for him. Paula mumbles. Simon says Lakisha gets no kiss tonight as that wasn’t very good for him.

Jordin Sparks sang “To Love Somebody” first. Barry kisses her butt before. He thinks it’s the best version of this song he has heard. She actually showed more emotion in the practice session than on stage. It was alright, though. Probably the best so far tonight, but that’s not saying a whole lot. Randy thought it was the best so far, but again that’s not saying much. Paula agrees. Simon thought it was a good song choice and performance. That was a “safe” song choice for her. Blah!

Melinda Doolittle sang her second song next, which was “How To Mend a Broken Heart”. That was much better than the first song. Randy agreed. He says it was a great everything. She is still a professional. Paula makes no sense. Simon thought the second half of that song has put her through to the next round.

Blake Lewis sang “This is Where I Came In” for his second song. He decided to pretty much sing this song without adding anything. Probably less than he intended based on the feedback he got from the first song. That worked much better. Randy wasn’t jumping and down. He doesn’t think that Blake has to beatbox on every song. Paula disagrees. Simon didn’t like that song choice. He thought he had a bad night tonight. Simon does think that he has a lot of young supporters, though. We’ll see if that is enough.

Lakisha Jones sang her second song, “Run To Me”. Another solid performance. Randy thought it was better than the first performance. Simon agrees. He thinks her or Blake could go home this week.

Jordin Sparks finishes us off with her second song, which was “Woman in Love”. Simon always says that Lakisha screeches too much, well that was incredibly whiny! Randy thought it was pitchy. So did Paula. They actually give props to Barry Gibb and his song. Simon thought it was old-fashioned and too much like a beauty pageant performance. Well thank goodness they didn’t like that performance, because it wasn’t that great.

Honestly, not the best week for the best singers in this competition. It will be close, but I will go with my gut this time. I can’t really divide up everyone that great, but I will make a small attempt.

My Standings

(Finals Here I Come)
1. Melinda Doolittle

(Flip a Coin, Then Flip It Again)
2. Lakisha Jones
3. Blake Lewis
4. Jordin Sparks

I said that Lakisha would finish in 4th place and be the “shocking” elimination. It won’t be as shocking, but I still think that’s true. Blake didn’t have the best week, but I honestly can’t see there being three girls left who sing the exact same way! For that reason, I predict Lakisha goes home. But I actually hope Jordin goes.
