The much traveled story of Mike Tyson once hit the screens before in a film about the boxer’s life. Now it is time to find out the true story, possibly, straight from his mouth.

Director James Toback (Black and White) is set to make a documentary about Mike Tyson simply entitled Tyson. It will encompass all the details of the boxer’s life inside the ring and out letting his life self-destruct and go from super stardom straight down to debt and nothing.

Toback has more than thirty hours of completed interviews with Tyson where he gives his sides on his prison term, his in-ring career, his marriage to Robin Givens, his young boxing start, and even the biting of Evander Holyfield’s ear.

The point is not to polish his image or make a cinematic apology, but rather to get a firsthand look at a very complex and epic story. He was honest about all the things that have highlighted his life, from the bitter divorce, the ear-biting, prison, to his becoming a sex addict. He is self-aware, smart, and a totally fractured personality, and he made himself completely vulnerable.” Toback said.

Tyson was on top the boxing world for many years after winning his first title at the young age of 19, but has since fallen off the pedestal and been involved in nothing but scandal and debt for the past couple years.

Tyson was pleased to work with Toback and said he was “humbled and appreciate that Mr. Toback gave me an opportunity to be involved in this project. I will, to the best of my abilities, gives a truthful account of myself.
