Random Reality – American Idol – Triple Threat

Shows

We are down to the three that I thought we would be down to. Can Blake outlast the women and get into the final two, where he will ultimately be beaten? Or could he win it all? Can Jordin actually survive another week and piss me off even more? Find out all of that and more right now…

No guest mentors tonight. Each contestant is singing three songs. The judges pick one, the producers pick another, and the contestants pick their final song. Lets get to it.

Jordin Sparks starts us off as Simon picks her first song. It’s “Wishing on a Star” by Rose somebody. The thing I don’t like about Jordin is that they try and shove her down our throats as the “greatest ever”! Once again she is nowhere near as good as they make her out to be. The singing was good, but nothing special. Randy liked it a lot. Who cares what Paula says. Simon thought she sang it well, but didn’t like the musical arrangement of the song. Not one of her better performances.

Blake Lewis had her first song picked by Paula. It was “Roxanne” by The Police. That was just a weird song. That could have worked for Blake, but it wasn’t. Again he sang it well, but the music overpowered him. Randy liked the performance and gives it an ‘A’. Paula blabs about nothing. Simon thought it wasn’t earth-shattering, but it was good. Not as good as Sting, but whatever.

Melinda Doolittle had her first song picked by Randy. It was “I Believe in You and Me” by Whitney Houston. Wait, is he setting her up here? He said he didn’t like anyone else singing her songs. Hmmm… Not as great as I was expecting, but still the best so far. Randy said he wanted to challenge her and she succeeded. Ditto for Paula. Simon thought it was her best performance in the last four weeks. She takes round one.

Jordin Sparks has her second song picked by the producers. It’s “She Works Hard for the Money” by Donna Summers. I suppose it was better than the first song, but nothing special again. Randy thought it was hott. Paula drools over her. Simon thought the performance was good, but still not her best.

Blake Lewis sang his second song from the producers. It’s “This Love” by Maroon Five. This song actually makes sense for him. He sang it as good as the original, if not better. Randy and Paula think that is the kind of song that he should be singing when he makes a record. Simon thought it was really good as well.

Melinda Doolittle sang her second song from the producers. It’s “Nutbush City Limits” by Ike and Tina Turner. I have never heard that song in my life. But she is just like Tina Turner, so this should work. She sang it great, of course, but just a weird song for me. All three judges really liked it, though. That thought that round was a tie.

Jordin Sparks finished her singing for the night with “I Who Have Nothing” by I don’t know. I think we have heard this song way too many times during the finals. That was a good song for her to scream at. Best of hers tonight, but not “final two” material. Paula really doesn’t say anything. Simon thought she sang it well, but he hated the fact that she was singing a 60-year-old song. He wanted her to sing a different song.

Blake Lewis chose his final song in “When I Get You Alone” by Robin Thicke. It was a good song for him. Not the best for him tonight, but still great. Randy liked it, but not as much as the last one. Simon really liked it, though. Simon says this is what he likes about Blake. He always takes risk and never plays it safe like say Jordin. Simon didn’t say that, but that’s what he meant.

Melinda Doolittle finishes is off for the night with “I am Woman” by whoever sung it. I think she sang this song already. Still pretty good. Randy and Simon agree. Simon liked the striptease at the beginning. Simon thinks she is definitely in the finals as she has been consistent through the whole competition.

It’s simple now. Two groups. Who is staying and who should go home.

My Standings

(Lets Meet Again)
1. Melinda Doolittle
2. Blake Lewis

(Goodbye!!)
3. Jordin Sparks

I predicted Blake and Melinda in the finals and I will stick with that. Blake should easily be in the finals. Why? Because there has NEVER been two people in the finals who have the same singing style. Jording and Melinda sing the same kind of songs and that has never happened in the finals. If it does, it will be a BORING final two. We need some variety and Blake provides that. See you later Jordin!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
