A Moment's All I Ask – 5.21.07

What do you need to know about American Idol last week, you ask? My girl (and apparently America’s pick) Melinda Doolittle was voted off. Melinda handled it with the grace and class she’d had all season, she didn’t even cry (she saved that for when she went home), she was mostly relieved. She undoubtedly will get a record deal and be very successful, but there is no way she’s better than Blake. Yes, Blake is of a completely different style of her and of anyone on Idol the entire season, but I would have been more entertained to see the two powerhouses, Jordin Sparks and Doolittle, battle it out.

It’s going to be a interesting tale, the boy with the 311 flavor versus America’s Sweetheart with the incredible voice and cute personality. I can tell you going in, I’m pulling for Sparks. Blake too will also get a record deal but Sparks has been constantly improving the entire season and really stepped into her own in the last few weeks. The youth vote will be really interesting. You have the teenage girls who want to have Jordin as a friend and the teenage boys who have a crush on Sparks. You also have the teenage girls who want to date Blake and the teenage boys questioning their sexuality who can identify with Blake. I don’t believe there are teenage boys out there who are going to vote for Blake, just because he’s hip and the class clown of the group.
