A Co-Host Turned Blogger: My Recap of the American Idol Season

So American Idol has wrapped up for another season and yet again another has been crowned champ. I have to be honest as an Idol fan, who watches religiously every year I think this may have been my last.

Although I do love controversy from time to time I just thought it took away from the real talent this year. You know, what the show is supposed to be about. Sure everyone loves a bit of gossip on the show but with that we end up holding on to singers who can’t sing at all. Let’s take Antonella Barba for example. Clearly she was around as long as she was because of the naughty pics that popped up on the net. I do realize that there are some true Sanjaya fans out there, but WHY. Was he the Idol we all loved to hate and was it really worth the title? Yes, votefortheworst.com has been around for a while but isn’t that an indication that the show really should come to an end. It’s a joke!

Then you have those who believe the show is a fix from the get go. I tend not to believe this theory because it’s clear that past winner’s haven’t all had the same success. Wouldn’t it be wise to take singers with the potential to the top? Records sell much more then a few headlines in entertainment. Just because their crowned the winners doesn’t guarantee people buy their albums. Speaking of, where is Taylor Hicks these days?

No doubt the show has made some incredible careers for past competitors, winner or not, but I feel as if it’s lost its touch. It was really sad to watch Jordin Sparks win the title this year. She’s good but not the best and I think that all agreed based on the poor ratings for the finale.

Simon has said that he’s only around more three more seasons and that’s why I think this show will fade quickly. It’s had it run, high ratings, top selling albums and controversy. It’s time to start producing for the talent. I’d rather fall in love in with the music first then the artist. The way things used to be!
