Just last night she was traipsing down the red carpet of the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, and now she is sitting in her cell. Ladies and gentlemen, Paris Hilton is in jail.
Known for some time now that a judge ordered her to serve jail time for violating her probation from an earlier alcohol related reckless driving charge. Sentenced to 45 days in prison, Hilton will serve approximately 23 days in jail due to state law of time off due to good behavior for every day served.
After showing up at the awards, Hilton surrendered to deputies two days earlier then she was supposed to report.
Speaking to reporters on the red carpet, Hilton said, “I am trying to be strong right now. I’m ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that’s really helpful.“
After turning herself in at the Men’s County Jail in Los Angeles, she was escorted to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, CA. She was given her standard orange jumpsuit and her first meal consisting of cereal, bread, and juice. Hilton will be in a special wing of the center for police officers, special needs inmates, and celebrities. But she will get the same treatment as in the community. One hour a day out of her cell to watch TV, go outside, and even use a pay phone.
MTV Movie Awards’ host Sarah Silverman brought up Hilton’s upcoming jail term in her opening monologue and cracked a few jokes at the heiress’ expense. Many in the crowd cheered and applauded, but when the camera panned, Hilton was shown without a smile on her face.
