Another day, another doctor gone from the ginormous cast of ABC’s top drama Grey’s Anatomy. Isaiah Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke, will not be returning for season four of the medical drama.
The season finale showed Burke walking out on his wedding to Cristina Yang, and clearing his things out of their shared apartment, which led to speculation among fans of the show that he was gone.
Washington was at the centre of some controversy in 2006 when he got into a fight with co-star Patrick Dempsey, apparently over T.R. Knight (who later came out as gay), and denying that he called Knight a “faggot” at the Golden Globe awards, which his co-stars took some exception to. He then undertook counseling in order to… I don’t know, actually. Stop disliking gay people? Not be an idiot in public? Make it look like he was doing something?
Whatever the reason, Washington (through his publicist) issued the following statement: “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore,” which seems like he’s paraphrasing the Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready to Make Nice”.
