Cameron Diaz Set For The Box

News

Cameron Diaz is prepared to step a bit out of her element and into the horror genre to star in The Box which is to be directed by Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko).

Kelly also wrote the script for the film which is based on a short story entitled “Button, Button” by Richard Matheson. He will produce along with Sean McKittrick, and Ted Hamm will be executive producer. Media Rights Capital is funding the entire project.

The story takes a young woman (Diaz) who is given a very mysterious box by a stranger. Not sure what to think, she is only told that different things will happen depending on which buttons on the box she presses.

Production will begin in the fall and they are hoping that The Box (being billed as a supernatural thriller) can have the same success of the recently released 1408.

Kelly said “my hope is to make a film that is incredibly suspenseful and broadly commercial, while still retaining my artistic sensibility.

Modi Wiczyk, one of the founders of MRC, went on to say, “The storyline has all the commerciality of ‘The Ring,’ but with Richard and Cameron, this film can rise to the level of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Others.’
