Today in Japan, Kurt Angle beat Brock Lesnar for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

From TNAWrestling.com:

On Friday in Tokyo, Japan, TNA Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle defeated longtime rival Brock Lesnar for the IWGP Championship in a match for Antonio Inoki’s new IGF wrestling promotion.

An article by Bill Banks on TNA’s Web site quotes Angle as saying “The IWGP Championship is the second title to add to my growing collection … On July 15 at Victory Road, I’m going to add a third title – the TNA World Tag Team Championship. Then after Victory Road, there will only be one more title for me to win – and that’s to take the X Championship from that fat slob Samoa Joe!”

Lesnar took the IWGP belt with him when he left New Japan Pro Wrestling, and has since left the world of pro wrestling for a career in mixed martial arts, where he is now 1-0. According to WrestlingObserver.com, after the match, Angle said he would grant a rematch, but only in MMA, and that Lesnar better hurry since Angle’s already 38 years old (implying the later he tries to get into MMA the less of a chance there is for the fight to take place). Meanwhile, BodogFight is heavily promoting the debut of former WWE wrestler/Tough Enough IV winner Daniel Puder on its show this coming Tuesday, and teasing an eventual Angle/Puder shoot fight.
