Results time on Canadian Idol.
Another four contestants would be eliminated on Wednesday night as the Top 18 would turn into the Top 14 by the evening’s end. It was a pretty big night in general. The contestants would learn if they were one step closer to their dream and we are exactly one month away from the biggest party of the year… Murtzfest 2007.
There was a rumored rainstorm that was supposed to hit Toronto at some point in the early evening, so I was concerned that my Idol-watching experience would be a wet one. Luckily, the weather held up and a precautionary tent was set-up outside the Trinity Studios to prevent anyone from being poured on. This definitely affected attendance, but I actually liked it because the atmosphere inside the studios resembled the stripped down show that happened at the Masonic Temple last season.
When I got to my seat, I reiterated my predictions for the evening. I thought that Clifton, Andrew, Scarlett and Naomi were going home.
During the warm-up, the Top 9 girls and guys came out. The guys went over to the TD Comfort Zone seating area while the girls took sat down on the couches (the guys went first last week).
You all know that I like to analyze the seating arrangement because I believe that it provides an early clue as to who is going home. So here’s how it lined up for the girls this week:
On the front couch (from left to right): Annika, Mila, Carly Rae, Tara.
On the back couch (from left to right): Martha, Montana, Scarlett, Naomi, Khalila.
I figured that the bottom four girls this week would be Annika and Mila from the front row and Scarlett and Naomi from the back row.
The show began with Ben Mulroney making his first appearance of the evening. He said that the remaining contestants were all “playing for the top 10.” After introducing the judges, a recap package of the performance was played.
Time for business as Ben Mulroney started to read the results.
SCARLETT: BOTTOM 4
NAOMI: BOTTOM 4
KHALILA: BOTTOM 4
Reasons like this are exactly why I think Canadian Idol is a much better show than the American version. It’s because of the awesome misdirection. Taking 3 from the back row definitely wasn’t predictable (even if the singers were). Khalila was definitely a surprise though as I thought she was pretty good on Tuesday.
Onto the front row, even though this was just semantics now since it was clear to me that Annika, Carly and Tara weren’t going anywhere.
MILA: BOTTOM 4
CARLY RAE: SAFE
Other than Khalila, no real shockers for me.
During the break, the girls and guys switched as the guys headed over to the couches and the girls went over to the TD Comfort Zone. Annika was crying her eyes out during the commercial.
For the guys:
On the front couch (from left to right): Dwight, Andrew, Brian, Greg.
On the back couch (from left to right): Tyler, Clifton, Matt, Liam, Jaydee.
I thought that it would be Andrew and Brian from the front couch (even though Brian was the best on Monday, but just because he is from Ontario) and Clifton and Matt from the back row.
CLIFTON: BOTTOM 4
Shocking male results because this meant that only one of Dwight, Andrew, Brian and Greg would be safe.
I was STUNNED!!!!!!! Dwight and Brian are two of the favorites in the competition, not just to advance but to even win.
DWIGHT: BOTTOM 4
ANDREW: BOTTOM 4
BRIAN: BOTTOM 4
Shocking! If you will remember, I predicted Dwight to be in the Final 2 last week. I was mortified. While I still stuck with my prediction from the top of the show (with Clifton and Andrew) leaving, the story of tonight’s show wasn’t so much about who was leaving as much as it was about who might have left.
After the break, Ben asked the judges who would be going home.
Jake: Clifton & Dwight (going home)
Farley: I agree.
Sass: Khalila or Mila can’t go.
Zack: Agree with Sass.
Ben announced the first two contestants who were safe.
For the guys it was… DWIGHT!
For the girls it was… KHALILA!
Now it was time for the eliminations. Ben said that Brian was safe. That meant CLIFTON and ANDREW are finished.
For the girls, Ben announced that Mila would be staying. That meant that SCARLETT and NAOMI were eliminated.
While the show was surprising, the end result was still predictable.
Naomi said that she might not have chosen songs that were recognizable to the voting public.
Scarlett said that she had a good time and sang her heart out. No regrets.
Clifton thanked everyone for voting and said that he choked and didn’t bring his ‘A-game.’
Andrew pimped his post-Idol career.
Ben asked the judges for their advice to the remaining contestants.
Zack: People who are staying are good choice. This is not your mom’s karaoke show. I think Canada knocked this one out of the park
Jake: Song choice. This show is a great platform for facetime on television.
Farley: Song has to be relevant and have a degree of risk.
Sass: If you pick the right song, you will give the right performance.
Highlight package of the eliminated contestants.
Once again, I proved my status at the world’s foremost reality television expert with a perfect prediction before the show started. And the thing is, I am not losing faith in Dwight.
See you next week!
